Trump to Abe: US to boost defences against North Korea

North Korea this week fired a projectile which flew about 60 kilometers (37 miles) into the East Sea, South Korea's military leadership said.

It comes a day before the start of a meeting between the US President and China's President Xi Jinping in Mar-a-Lago.

North Korea has been accused of violating the UN Security Council resolutions and of creating a "grave threat to worldwide peace and security in the region and beyond". Instead of the usual condemnation of calling it a provocative act in violation of U.N. resolutions, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said simply, "the United States has spoken enough about North Korea".

It is the latest in a series of tests which the North has been conducting in pursuit of its goal of developing a nuclear missile.

The US military's Pacific Command said the launch was likely to be of a KN-15 medium-range ballistic missile.

Arkansas execution plan major test for drug secrecy measures
Let me add one final point, though, that a recent poll here in Arkansas put approval of the death penalty upwards of 60 percent. Drugmakers have largely objected to having their products used in executions and have refused to sell to prisons for that goal .

These missile defense efforts have become more important as North Korea ramps up its ballistic missile development and President Trump vows to keep Kim Jong-un's regime in check.

The European Union has rolled out additional sanctions on North Korea, aimed at punishing Pyongyang for actions that pose a grave threat to global peace and security. Many weapons experts say the North could have a functioning nuclear-tipped missile capable of reaching the continental US within a few years.

The exercise is scheduled to take place just south of the Inter Korean border at an army training field in Pocheon on 13, 21 and 26 April, Yonhap news agency reported.

Abe told reporters at his official residence that he was watching to see how China would respond to Pyongyang after Xi meets Trump at the United States leader's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

"If we are serious about solving this issue, we need to tackle the root of it", she said at a regular news briefing.

North Korea is ready to deliver the "most ruthless blow" if provoked by the United States, its ambassador to Moscow said on Thursday, after President Donald Trump pledged to keep building up defences against Pyongyang. "Both agreed to push forward the deployment of THAAD by USA forces in Korea".

Abe and Trump also confirmed that North Korea's firing of a ballistic missile is "a unsafe provocative act and a grave threat to the security of Japan". Senator Deb Fischer is on the Senate Armed Services Committee and says even though they are called test fires there is a big cause of concern.

North Korea has carried out several SLBM tests near Sinpo.
