Buccaneers pick up Mike Evans' fifth-year option

"We can't answer all the questions in 10 days but it's good to see him here", Licht said of Martin.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Monday that former Clemson wide receiver Adam Humphries has signed a one-year qualifying offer with the team. "Mike, in terms of his future here, I know I can speak for myself and I'm pretty sure I'm speaking for everybody here, well I know I am, but Mike is a Buc for life". We'll take it from there. Today, we picked up his option. Evans recorded career-highs in receptions (96), receiving yards (1,321), and tied his career-high in touchdown receptions (12) in 2016.

The Buccaneers likely considered several players before opting to draft wide receiver Mike Evans in the first round of the 2014 draft, but there probably wasn't much need to contemplate what to do about their option for a fifth-year on his rookie deal. The decision could come before the NFL Draft later this month.

The Bucs have worked out and met with a number of top running back prospects, including, most recently, Florida State's Dalvin Cook, a projected first-round pick (and possibly in the top 10), along with Texas' D'Onta Foreman and Oklahoma's Joe Mixon. Winston is the first quarterback in league history to open his career with consecutive 4,000-yard passing seasons, and the Buccaneers have made an effort to surround him with an increasingly potent array of weapons. The 10th-year veteran adds explosiveness to the offense, and should help free up space for Evans. That will likely be true through the 2018 season, at least, and the Bucs hope it will remain so well beyond then.
