Russia, Google reach $7.8 million settlement on Android case

The company also can't restrict competing search engines and applications from being preinstalled on Android devices.

The FAS in September 2015 considered Google in breach of a competition law after the complaint by Yandex of the competitive advantage for Google on Android phones.

Alexei Dotsenko, FAS deputy head, told reporters that "Google will no longer demand exclusivity of its applications on Android-based devices in Russian Federation and will not restrict the pre-installation of rival search engines and other applications". The anti-trust case was originally filed by Yandex, who claimed that Google violated Russia's competition rules.

Under the settlement, Google is to pay 439 million rubles (USD 7.8 million) in fines and will not limit the pre- installation of third-party apps, the reports said.

Google has promised to allow rivals' search engines and apps to be pre-installed on phones running its versions of Android in Russian Federation.

It brings to an end a long-running battle between the U.S. firm and Russia's competition regulator, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS).

Workers relieve pressure on leaking Alaska oil well
In 2006, a corroded pipeline released almost 5,000 barrels of crude oil, the largest oil spill in the North Slope at the time. Attempts to stop the leak have failed so far. "All necessary notifications have been made to state and federal regulators".

Google has agreed to be less controlling about what Android phone manufacturers can do in Russian Federation, as the result of a settlement today with the country's antimonopoly agency. The case revolved around how Google had required handset makers to pre-load their devices with Google apps and services in order to also gain access the Google Play Store application. The fine amounts to 9 percent of Google's revenue in Russian Federation in 2014, plus inflation, according to TASS. Google had been appealing the decision prior to the recent settlement.

Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Google will no longer demand exclusivity of its apps on Android devices in Russian Federation. Additionally, Google will build a new Chrome widget to replace the existing Google Search widget that millions of users around the world will be familiar with - when launched for the first time, users will see an option to choose Yandex search or Google search.

Now, Google said it has entered a commercial agreement with Yandex "to promote" Yandex in Chrome, a deal that has been rubberstamped by the FAS.

American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) Receives Daily Coverage Optimism Score of 0.09
The last close places the company's stock about $5.98 off its 52 week high of $19.55 and $0.53 above the 52 week low of $13.04. Analyst Recommendations are opinions given by analysts to their clients about whether a given stock is worth buying or not.

Apart from restoring conditions for competition in the market of mobile applications, the implementation of the settlement will enable consumers to buy devices with the software that better corresponds to their expectations. The addition of a choice window provides users with the opportunity to choose their default search engine.
