Sessions singled out gangs and cartels as "criminal organizations" that turn "cities and suburbs into war-zones", that "rape and kill innocent" people and profit from "smuggling poison and other human beings across the border".

U.S. Attorney's Offices are also directed to designate a prosecutor as their Border Security Coordinator in order to implement these new immigration enforcement priorities. That includes prosecuting repeat offenders as felons in some circumstances and adding aggravated identity theft to some cases.

Sessions had called for immigration courts to speed up prosecutions and for the Justice Department to hire 75 more immigration judges, along with 60 more border enforcement prosecutors.
Acknowledging the decrease in border crossings last month, which was the lowest monthly figure for at least 17 years Sessions says, he told prosecutors that he wants to redouble efforts on enforcement to reduce illegal crossings further. Legal advocates believe part of that drop is due to CBP agents turning away asylum-seekers in violation of worldwide law, which CBP denies.
The Justice Department has already started a policy of sending judges to detention centers to hear cases.
