New Amazon Echo coming with screen and phone features

It's pretty insane. It does everything the original Echo does, but it also has a screen that allows Alexa to, well, show you things.

Echo Show brings you everything you love about Alexa, and now she can show you things. One of the new features is the ability to make calls to friends who have the Echo or Alexa app on other devices. It's also got video and voice calling built in, but from the looks of things you need to use the Alexa app rather than the service you're used to. The device has now been officially unveiled by Amazon as the Amazon Echo Show.

Amazon will release the Echo Show on June 28, and the device is up for pre-order now with two color options of black and white.

Amazon sells its Echo in the United Kingdom but didn't announce pricing or a release date for the Echo Show in UK.

A report by research firm eMarketer has revealed that Amazon dominates the connected speaker market with a market share of over 70%. With the screen, Echo users will have a new way to interact with Amazon's AI personal assistant Alexa.

Seattle-based Amazon said the device is based on its Alexa technology. Google's Home device commands a market share of just 24%. As the first Echo with a screen, customers can view a lot of the same information they might have previously checked on their smartphone.

Amazon seems to be ahead of its e-commerce rivals in the digital assistant game although we have no idea how the Echo and Echo Dot sales are doing since launch. Yesterday, we reported that an Echo with built-in display was spotted on Amazon's servers.

If you to like sing out loud and don't know the words to the songs, the Echo Show displays music lyrics on the screen.
