Trump defends firing Comey, says both parties will thank him

Comey told the heads of the Senate intelligence committee that he went to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein last week and pushed for more resources to be devoted to the Russian Federation investigation, according to two sources familiar with the discussion. On Monday, Comey briefed key senators about the request.

Democrats also continued to hammer President Donald Trump's decision on Comey.

The White House has wielded a critical memo from Rosenstein to justify President Donald Trump's decision to fire Comey on Tuesday.

The Justice Department is denying that Comey asked for more resources. The FBI has not confirmed that Comey ever made those assurances to the president.

Trump made a similar case on Twitter, saying Comey had "lost the confidence of nearly everyone in Washington", adding: "When things calm down, they will be thanking me!"

"I think it has been an erosion of confidence", White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said. Sessions during the campaign. It does not mention the Russian Federation investigation.

"The president took strong and decisive leadership here to put the safety and security of the American people first", Pence said.

Trump advisers said the president met with Rosenstein, as well as Attorney General Jeff Sessions, on Monday after learning that they were at the White House for other meetings.

Democratic leaders have blamed Comey's actions for Hillary Clinton's unexpected election loss, and Trump seemed to believe they would be okay with seeing the Federal Bureau of Investigation leader kicked out.

The president fired Comey the following day. But the committee says acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe will stand in for Comey at Thursday's hearing. He said there would be no question about the current investigation continuing if not for the political implications. On Wednesday, Trump labeled the Senate minority leader "Cryin' Chuck Schumer". "One that he said goes against the tradition of prosecutors at every level".

Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends", co-host Steve Doocy asked Sen.

"It is entirely within the president's role and authority to relieve him, and that's what he did", Ryan told Fox News' Bret Baier.

He led off the tweetstorm with criticism of Democrats, who have loudly called for a special prosecutor to look into alleged ties between his campaign and Russian Federation.

The Senate intelligence committee has confirmed that McCabe will be at the hearing instead of Comey, who was sacked on Tuesday by President Donald Trump. And now we have the firing of the director heading the investigation. But he didn't fire Director Comey then.

The results are in and the Local Government outcomes in Scotland, Wales and (much of) England are no great surprise. The Liberal Democrats, like the SNP, held steady, while the Scottish Greens will be pleased with modest gains.

Democratic senators sharply criticized Trump's decision to fire Comey on Tuesday, with some calling for a special prosecutor to investigate Russian meddling into the 2016 USA election and any connection to Trump's aides.

"So what's needed now is an independent counsel and special prosecutor".

Lavrov said: "Was he fired?"

Trump's nominee as the new director would need to win Senate confirmation.

Trump tweeted on Wednesday morning that Comey had "lost the confidence of nearly everyone in Washington, Republican and Democrat alike".

Trump defended his decision Wednesday, asserting in a flurry of tweets that both Democrats and Republicans "will be thanking me" for his action.
