ICJ order great vindication of India's stand: Jaitley

In a provisional win for India, the International Court of Justice stayed the execution of Kulbhushan Jadhav, a retired Indian naval officer whom Pakistan arrested a year ago and convicted of espionage.

Adding that "status quo" will be maintained, Pakistani Attorney General's office said, "We are determined to pursue this case to its logical end".

In its plea to the court, India, represented by lawyer Harish Salve, had expressed the fear that Jadhav might be executed even while the hearing at the ICJ was on.

The ICJ on Thursday allowed India's petition that Pakistan be directed not to execute Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was handed a death sentence by a Pakistani military court in April this year.

"The court also decides that until it has given its final decision, it shall remain seized of the matters which form the subject matter of this order", said the court which consists of 10 judges, including Justice Dalveer Bhandari of India, besides President Abraham.

Michael Noonan to retire
He said that like any politicians, Mr Kenny had "his highs and lows" but he praised general his performance over two governments. Mr Kenny, who was elected taoiseach in 2011, tendered his resignation in March, but has been acting prime minister since then.

Sharma also slammed Pakistan over remarks of its Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria that ICJ has no jurisdiction to hear the case concerning Jadhav.

Pakistan alleges that Jadhav was working as an Indian spy when he was arrested in the southwestern province of Baluchistan in March 2016.

The top United Nations court also said that Pakistan should have given consular access to India as per Vienna Convention. In order to get Jadhav justice, India would first request for an outright release of the former naval officer.

Sharma said Pakistan's contention before the ICJ was based on a lie.

India, meanwhile, asserted the ruling is binding on Pakistan, calling it "unanimous" and "unambiguous".

Deere & Company (DE) Reports Q2 Beat With 62% Gain On Bottomline
Net receivables and leases financed by JDCC were $32.015 billion at April 30, 2017, compared with $33.208 billion at May 1, 2016. Shares of Deere traded up 5.5% at $118.81 in the premarket Friday morning, a new 52-week high if it holds after the bell.

New Delhi also appealed for the court to impose emergency measures to suspend Jadhav's execution until the legal battle in The Hague has concluded.

Opposition in Punjab Assembly will agitate the issue of International Court of Justice's (ICJ) decision to stay the execution of Indian spy Kalbhoshan Jadhav in today's assembly session.

He said India has the right to seek consular access for Jadhav, ordering Pakistan to inform the tribunal that it has implemented the decision.

Jadhav was convicted last month by a Pakistani military court and sentenced to death.

Jadhav's case is the latest flash-point in the tensions between Pakistan and India. He said Pakistan's reply to ICJ was in line with Article 36 (2) of the Vienna Convention that Pakistan does not recognise the jurisdiction of the ICJ in this case.
