Senator says Flynn hasn't responded to subpoena

Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn will not honor a Senate Intelligence Committee subpoena requesting any documents detailing his interactions with Russian officials during the 2016 campaign, the Associated Press reports.

Burr told reporters Thursday that Flynn's lawyer said Flynn would not comply with the subpoena, which the panel later corrected. The move came after Flynn's lawyer refused to provide documents in response to their April 28 request for this information. "Consistent with the Committee's position since the beginning of [our] investigation, I welcome their willingness to cooperate".

Flynn's lawyer did not immediately return a request for comment. Trump's former national security adviser will not honor a subpoena from the Senate Intelligence Committee, according to that panel's top senator.

The demand is for documents related to the committee's investigation into Russian interference in the presidential election.

Trump pledges to move quickly to name new Federal Bureau of Investigation director
U.S. presidents are normally at pains to avoid any suggestion of interference or even commenting on ongoing investigations. On Thursday, however, Trump sat down for an interview with NBC's Lester Holt and claimed it was his idea to fire Comey.

US stocks rose as upbeat economic data emboldened investors to return to the market on Thursday, a day after Wall Street saw its worst selloff in eight months on worries that the political turmoil could sideline Trump initiatives such as tax cuts that investors see as favoring economic growth.

Earlier Thursday, Reuters news agency cited unnamed current and former U.S. officials as saying that Trump election campaign advisers allegedly "were in contact with Russian officials" during "the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race".

Flynn resigned on February 13 at the request of President Trump after it was revealed Flynn had discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador and misled the Vice President and other administration officials about the nature of his conversations with Kislyak.

On Tuesday, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the No. 2 Justice Department official, named former FBI Director Robert Mueller to also investigate allegations of ties between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russian Federation.

Amid Justice interest, Trump formally chose Flynn as his national security adviser.

McClatchy reported that Flynn blocked a plan conceived by former President Barack Obama's administration against the so-called Islamic State that Turkey's government opposed. The U.S. has rebuffed those calls.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said House investigations would continue.

Last month, the top Democratic and Republican members of the House Oversight Committee announced that Trump's failure to disclose the payments he received from foreign governments likely constituted a violation of USA law. That inquiry is looking into whether Flynn was fully forthcoming about his foreign contacts and earnings from organizations linked to the governments of Russian Federation and Turkey.
