The euro edged up 0.2 percent to $1.0994 after gaining 0.4 percent on Monday.

The dollar sank Wednesday with a fresh crisis in the White House fuelling concerns that Donald Trump's economy-boosting agenda could be run off-track.

Brent crude gained 1.1 percent to settle at $52.21 per barrel, while US light crude rose 0.8 percent to settle at $49.07.

The Philippine Stock Exchange Index was down 0.88 percent to 7,757.69.

Former Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) chief Robert Mueller was appointed overnight by the US Justice Department to lead an inquiry into Russia's role in the 2017 election that Mr Trump won.

USD/CAD is supported at 1.3569 levels and is trading at 1.3606 levels.

It last stood at 97.588, flat from late USA trade, and down more than 2 percent over the past four sessions. Gasoline and distillate stocks also dropped.

The euro broke above $1.11 to levels not seen since Trump's election win in November, while the yen is also piling pressure on the United States unit.

The U.S. Dollar Index, which measures the value of the American dollar against British pound, euro, Japanese yen, Canadian dollar, Swedish krona and Swiss franc, fell 0.72 percent to 97.42. The dollar eased 0.3 percent against the yen to near 113.47, after rising 0.4 percent on Monday.

USD/JPY is supported around 110.57 levels and now trading at 110.94 levels. The Australian dollar decreased to 0.7425 US dollar from 0.7434 USA dollar. Allegations were against the former National Security Advisor- Michael Flynn for disclosing very sensitive information to the Russia's ambassador, Sergei Kislyak during their meeting previous year.

That raised questions about whether Trump tried to interfere with a federal investigation, spurring speculation over the likelihood of an early exit from office for the former businessman.

A recent run of disappointing US economic data, including inflation, retail sales and housing starts has also weighed on the dollar, tempering expectations for higher interest rates.
