With US President Donald Trump pushing for Israeli-Palestinian peace progress, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is again looking to widen his coalition by bringing in politicians from the center left, a TV report said. A message of support from Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas was read out at the rally.

Since the trip, Channel 2 reported that Trump yelled at Abbas for his alleged involvement in incitement against Israel, citing an unnamed American source. It praised a package of Israeli proposals to improve the West Bank economy, and said it looked forward to more.

Banners bearing the slogan "Two states, One Hope" featured in the demonstration organized by supporters of a Palestinian state, including the Israeli NGO Peace Now.

The survey also showed Netanyahu backed by 35% as their choice for prime minister, far ahead of centrist Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid on 14%, with no other candidate in double figures. The two leaders had previously met at the White House on May 3.

The leader of Peace Now told the crowd of protesters that Prime Minister Netanyahu had "forgotten what it's like to be Zionist". Citing an American source, Channel 2 reported on Sunday that Trump shouted at Abbas in Bethlehem, saying he was fooling him.

After talking to Netanyahu, the United States president welcomed what he called the Israeli premier's "commitment to pursuing peace".

The US President has said after his trip to the region last week that both Netanyahu and the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas want a peace deal. "You talked there about your commitment to peace, but the Israelis showed me your involvement in incitement [against Israel]", he allegedly said to Abbas, according to Israel's Channel 2 broadcaster, which cited a USA official present at the meeting.

But Israel's deputy foreign minister Tzipi Hotovely was quoted as saying at the meeting with Netanyahu that Israel does not have to agree to any agreement.
