Police and SWAT teams surrounded the Manila resort early Friday after gunfire broke out.

Stephen Reilly, the casino's chief operating officer, later said that 35 people had died - 13 employees and 22 guests - in what he described as a "senseless attack".

"We took out a ladder to save them".

"At the moment we only know of one suspect", he said.
