World leaders pledged Thursday to keep up the fight against global warming as U.S. President Donald Trump announced he was pulling out of the Paris climate accord.

Trump will announce his decision on Paris accord in the White House Rose Garden at 3 p.m., on Thursday (US time). Paris withdrawal leaves American workers & families behind.

"The climate agreement says: It takes three, four years after the treaty took effect in November 2016 to withdraw from the agreement", he said.

India has made it clear that it will not pull out of the Paris Accord - billed as the great hope to stop the unprecedented rise of global warming by cutting down on carbon emissions- even if the United States does. Those countries, including the USA, collectively account for the vast majority of the world's greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change. "And they won't be", Trump added.

Analysis by the Climate Interactive team said if the USA dropped out of the Paris Agreement and took no action, global temperatures could rise 0.3 degrees higher compared to if they stayed.

Tillerson has argued for keeping the U.S.in the Paris accord, as has the company he previously headed, ExxonMobil.

Before Trump even finished his full address, President Obama issued a statement opposing the withdrawal.

"The administration is joining a small handful of nations that reject the future", Obama said in the statement. He says the US should be "at the front of the pack".

America's global allies and Trump's domestic opponents lashed out Wednesday at media reports that he had made up his mind to pull Washington out of the agreement to curb carbon emissions.

"The US is already leading the world in energy production and doesn't need a bad deal that will harm American workers".

The leaders of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden say the 2015 Paris Agreement to reduce global warming was a commitment "to our children". Eurostat, the record-keeping arm of the European Union, reported a preliminary bloc-wide estimate for carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels declined 0.4 percent compared with a year ago. To remain in the deal, the US must cut its emissions by 26 percent from 2005 levels by 2025. A slew of reports on Wednesday suggested that Trump is poised to have the USA withdraw, though most accounts hedge their bets with a it's-not-final-until-Trump-announces caveat.

Trump, who campaigned for president past year with an "America First" message, promised voters an American withdrawal.

The letter is signed "Your Nordic Friends" and urges Trump "to show global leadership - and to make the right decision".

On the eve of Thursday's announcement, Trump noted as he took part in a photo session with Vietnam's visiting prime minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc that he was hearing from "a lot of people both ways" as he considered his options. That includes carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels blamed for a warming planet, rising sea levels, droughts and more frequent violent storms. "The impacts have been estimated to be likely to reduce global temperature rise by less than.2 degrees Celsius in 2100".

He added: "Fighting climate change is a global consensus, it's not invented by China. and we realize that this is a global consensus agreement and that as a big developing nation we should shoulder our worldwide responsibility". "We want fair treatment", President Trump said.

For a rare moment, climate change will be the subject in the news that everybody is watching.

The Republican vowed during the campaign to "cancel" the Paris deal within 100 days of becoming president on January 20, part of an effort to bolster United States oil and coal industries.

Speaking from Brussels, European officials said the effort to advance a low-carbon economy had considerable economic support.

Critics have argued that Mr Trump's decision amounts to the U.S. shirking its responsibility as the leader of the free world.

At a recent G7 summit in Sicily last week European leaders expressed their frustration at Trump over his climate change policies.
