Is Andy Rubin's Essential working on a Google Glass like prototype?

This could give rise to technologies like augmented reality.

Andy Rubin may soon walk onstage at an event somewhere with Essential Smart Glasses, a pair of spectacles that could be considered as the successor of the ill-fated Google Glass.

A patent belonging to Essential suggests that the company is considering dual-lens display smart glasses, according to Patently Apple. Additionally, it could also feature some sort of a "dual-mode display", which might showcase visual overlays and use an inward facing camera to perform eye tracking. "The one or more user facing cameras are oriented towards the user, and can track the direction of the user's gaze". Having cameras pointed at the user and at the environment is what will help Essential implement augmented reality applications. Among the patents that the website discovered is the Essential Smart Glasses. A recently unearthed patent filing indicates that the company might be planning to go against the likes of Google Glass and Snapchat Spectacles. A user can utilize the smart glasses' AR to analyze the bar code of an item and later receive options similar to the said item on the device's display.

Were Analysts Bullish IP Group Plc (LON:IPO) This Week?
The stock was purchased at an average cost of GBX 1,737 ($22.60) per share, for a total transaction of £49,747.68 ($64,716.64). The Firm focuses on Phase I to Phase IV clinical development services for the biopharmaceutical and medical device industries.

Phandroid has learned of a number of patents filed by Essential through a report by Patently Apple.

The patent mentions that the AR tech in the Smart Glasses will be able to provide information on products that it sees with the built-in camera, like providing real-time price matching for products in a store.

While Google Glass didn't take off, Andy Rubin might have a better product to offer.

Angry Europe vows to defend climate pact after Trump pullout
However, the rest of the signatories pledged to defend the agreement and not to backtrack in the fight against climate change. Oxfam France branded the decision as "shameful and irresponsible, scorning people and world peace".

The patent for Essential Smart Glasses was first shared online by Patently Apple, a day after the Essential Phone and Home device was revealed to the public. Critics deduced that the failure of the Google Glass was not due to the tech or hardware but because there wasn't a market for such a product then.

Long story short, the era of smart glasses could soon begin, with Essential among the front lines to pave the way.
