Police release 12 terror attack suspects without charge

Police have not identified the third person killed by police after Saturday's attack.

As details about Butt emerged, however, they prompted questions of whether he could have been stopped sooner.

He had appeared in a documentary, "The Jihadis Next Door", that aired on British television previous year.

Butt is also seen in the film sprawling on the lawn and nodding as he listens to a sermon in which the speaker tells those gathered: "This is not the real life, my dear brothers". Unlike Butt, Redouane was not previously known to authorities.

"We were all stuck!" said Marcia Rainford, a 58-year-old who said she was sealed into her building complex with her mother and two children. "I got very angry".

Salaudeen Jailabdeen, who lived near Butt, said the alleged assailant had once been ejected from a local mosque for interrupting an imam.

May, under fire because of three major attacks in Britain in the last three months, said Corbyn wasn't fit to safeguard Britain's security at a time of heightened threat. He said the vehicle was seen going the wrong way down a one-way street and was later seen speeding off, followed closely by a small red auto. He had at times claimed to be Moroccan and Libyan and also went by the name "Rachid Elkhdar".

Police identify two men behind London terrorist attacks
Campaigning resumed Monday after being suspended by major political parties in the aftermath of the attack. Two of the three men shot and killed by London police following Saturday's terror attacks have been named.

She said authorities are "unable to formally identify him until the coroner's report begins tomorrow".

Just hours before Khuram Butt and two accomplices drove a rented van into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people nearby, he was asking neighbours where he could hire a vehicle. One of the neighbours, Ikenna Chigbo, said he recognised Butt from a photo issued by British police following Saturday night's attack in the capital which killed seven and injured almost 50.Chigbo told Reuters that the man he knew as "Abz" had shown interest in a van he had rented. Twelve others taken into custody have since been released.

It is not clear how having more police on the beat would have prevented the attack, since the men were shot dead within eight minutes, but the issue of police cuts has come back to haunt May, who served for six years at home secretary under her predecessor David Cameron before she became prime minister last year. The authorities say they have foiled 18 plots since Rigby's killing, including five since the Westminster Bridge attack in March.Raffaello Pantucci, Director of International Security Studies at the Royal United Services Institute think-tank, said it was not clear whether intelligence agencies would be able to develop a system which could cope with such low-tech plots."You can do all the sort of calculations you want. but ultimately it's going to be hard if all it takes to do a plot is to get a knife and drive your auto into people", he said."In a way it would be even worse if they didn't know who these people were, and were looking in completely the wrong place".

Police raided a number of properties in Barking and Newham in the days after. Detectives are still working to identify the third attacker.

Under the British government's counterterrorism program, residents are encouraged to alert police to suspicious activity. It is now running 500 active investigations."It is a very large number".

"That is the awkward question going forward", said Andrew Silke, who has advised the House of Commons on preventing violent extremism.

The scene of the attack is right next to London Bridge station, a key railway terminus and a busy interchange on the Underground network.

For professionals, the killer feature might be using it for hands-free calls and audio conferencing, if the quality is that good. But Tim Cook & Co. revealed plenty about the software that will be at the new iPhone's core when it arrives, likely in the fall.

Some 20,000 other suspects, however, are on the periphery, according to the sources.

The country's official terror threat level had been set at "critical" in the days after the Manchester concert bombing on May 22 that killed 22 people - reflecting a judgment that an attack might be imminent because accomplices with similar bombs might be on the loose.

It was lowered once intelligence agencies were comfortable this wasn't the case.

The problem, security analysts say, is that these surveillance measures are not always effective."The technical stuff is important and essential. but all you are doing there is managing the problem", said Mr Raffaello Pantucci, a counter-terrorism expert at the Royal United Services Institute, a London-based think-tank.

May has said the three attacks - including one on Parliament in March - weren't connected in any operational sense but were linked by what she called the "perverted ideology" of extremist Islam.

One of his friends told BBC Asian Network he had phoned an anti-terrorist hotline set up by British authorities because he feared Butt had been radicalised after watching clips of US preacher Ahmad Musa Jebril, whose online sermons have been a leading source of inspiration for foreign fighters in Syria."I did my bit, I know a lot of people did but the authorities didn't do their bit and that's what's shocking", the friend, who the BBC did not identify, said.Another neighbour also said she had reported Butt to police two years ago after she feared he was radicalising children in a local park.

LONDON (AP) - A kaleidoscope of London's diversity turned out for a vigil Monday evening to honor the victims of the London Bridge attack: Buddhist monks in saffron robes, Christian clerics in purple cassocks and Ahmadiyya Muslims in black T-shirts bearing the words "I am a Muslim: Ask me anything".
