Can't resist texting while driving? Apple wants to make you stop

HomePod is the first hardware product for the company since the Apple watch.

The speaker will sell for about $350 in December in the US, United Kingdom and Australia.

First there was Amazon's Echo, introduced to the public in 2014.

Tourists trapped in Notre-Dame during new Paris terror attack
David Rahul Métreaum, a witness, told local radio station BFMTV that he could see a "man on the ground who is not moving". Lawrence Langner, a 73-year-old American, said he suddenly heard a commotion and two detonations like gunshots.

The Echo, released in 2015, and Google Home, released past year, were the first entrants in a promising market. On Monday, Apple showed off the HomePod, a seven-inch-tall Siri-enabled speaker, at its Worldwide Developers Conference, making the fight for smart-speaker domination that much more interesting.

For months, rumours swirled that Apple was preparing to announce a smart, internet-connected speaker that you could control with your voice.

This could be a tacit admission by Apple that it's too late in the game for yet another smart speaker - at least in name. This selection will prompt the smartphone's system to shut down the feature. "But one thing hasn't changed and that is our commitment to our developer community and to do really unbelievable things". Many market analysts offered long odds of Apple discussing augmented reality because it was so nascent.

From June 2018, all new apps submitted to the Mac app store will need to support 64-bit, and from June 2018 updates to existing apps must also be 64-bit compatible. And, if you have a speaker that supports Apple AirPlay or an Apple TV, you may be able to upgrade to AirPlay 2 so you can use your HomePod and all your AirPlay 2 devices together as a whole-home system. And a new format called High Efficiency Image File Format can reduce the file size of the pics you take on an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus.

Meanwhile, Apple is also upgrading its services to include SMS fraud programming. So far, the service has limited payments to purchases of products and services from companies and other organizations. It will have lot of the editorial content, including interviews and feature pieces, artwork and videos around the App. Apple says, "Today will feature exclusive premieres, new releases and a fresh look at all-time favourites, as well as recommended tips and how-to guides to help customers use apps in innovative ways".

Like those other products it is created to be a digital home assistant, capable of answering questions about maths as well as music-related enquiries - but it comes with some Apple quirks. Finally, the App Store will now make in-app purchases more discoverable. But Apple insists that through machine learning and artificial intelligence, Siri will indeed get smarter in iOS 11, and also learn more about how to please you with personal experiences and suggestions by learning what you're doing inside the Safari, News, Mail and Messages apps. It will allow users to automatically block auto-play videos by detecting videos that shouldn't be playing when you open a webpage to read an article, for example.
