After sowing doubts, Trump backs NATO mutual defence under charter

European leaders were disappointed last month when Trump did not explicitly endorse the mutual defense doctrine articulated in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation charter while visiting the alliance headquarters in Brussels.

That article in the NATO treaty says an attack on one member is an attack on all members and binds the allies to come to that country's defense.

Seven Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee are calling on President Trump to explicitly endorse NATO's mutual defense clause after he declined to do so during a speech last month.

When asked how he thought the meeting would go, Iohannis said: "Certainly [it] will go very well and I am convinced that we will address important points on our agenda".

Pound dives as United Kingdom enters new period of uncertainty
The Conservatives are often not forgiving of failures, particularly unforced ones, and May had no need to call an election at all. Where May's campaign was lackluster, Jeremy Corbyn galvanized Labour support, especially amongst young people.

That didn't seem to bother Iohannis, who noted that Romania was the first country under Trump's administration to "step up to 2 percent of GDP for defense spending".

During nearly three hours of extraordinarily frank statements before a Senate committee Thursday, Comey described himself as "stunned" by Trump's "very disturbing" and "very concerning" behavior in several meetings.

President Donald Trump publicly reaffirmed his commitment to NATO's mutual defense provision, countering suggestions he previously made that he might not deploy USA troops to defend a member state under attack.

Comey said he believed he was sacked over his handling of the Russian Federation investigation, which includes probing allegations that Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to tip the election to the real estate tycoon.

UK PM May seen fighting for survival after election failure
British politicians, including within May's own party, differ widely on what they want from the Brexit negotiating process. That would mean we would have had two referendums and three general elections in less than three years.

Mr. Trump gave the assessment in an Oval Office meeting with the president of Romania.

I'm not going to say I want you to pledge allegiance. But he said the USA would abide by its treaty obligations. You can't just do what we've been doing in the past, so I did say, yes you haven't paid this year, but what about the past years, the many past years where you haven't paid.

The President last formally took questions on May 18, when he held a bilateral news conference - similar to the one that will happen Friday - with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

Northern Ireland election results: DUP handed pivotal role
So a fascinating time - Theresa May staring down the camera lens and telling the country: 'I am still in charge'. May had unexpectedly called the snap election seven weeks ago, even though no vote was due until 2020.
