Rafael Nadal revels in the instant history of 'a ideal Roland Garros'

Gustavo Kuerten, the much loved Brazilian who was feted along with other tennis Hall of Famers prior to the finale, insisted last week Nadal could win several more French Opens.

"He lost 35 games in the entire tournament". One, because I play against him and he puts this doubt in your head when you play against him because he's playing so well.

Winners are normally given a small trophy to keep. Nadal roared through his seventh straight game building a 3-0 second-set lead.

His uncle, Toni Nadal, was crying when interviewed on French television and struggled to answer questions due to emotion, wiping his eyes with his hands before composing himself. "I don't think it would be the right thing to do to see it as a revenge", said Nadal who withdrew before last year's third round at the French Open with a wrist injury.

Since his debut in 2005, he has lost only two matches on the Parisian red clay and he bagged his 79th victory on Sunday by dismantling Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in a one-sided final.

Red Sox announcer Remy says Tanaka should learn 'baseball language'
The Red Sox improve to 32-25 on the season and are now one game back of the Yankees for first place in the AL East. Tanaka, who does not speak fluent English, joined the Yankees in 2014.

But in an astonishing resurgence the Mallorcan reached this year's Australian Open final, losing a classic to old sparring partner Roger Federer, and has steamrollered through the European claycourt season, winning a 10th title in Monte Carlo and Barcelona and a fifth in Madrid. Nadal stays ideal at 10-0 in French finals.

Wawrinka actually had the first break point in the third game in a scratchy start to the match but soon he was the one under pressure.

Nadal also won Roland Garros in 2006, 2007 and 2008, then after a fourth-round loss on bad knees in 2009, he grabbed a record five in a row from 2010-14. And then there was this: Federer finished with 35 unforced errors, Nadal only seven.

The men's final at the French Open is underway.

When it ended, Nadal dropped to his back on the clay, then rose and briefly pulled his blue shirt over his face.

Initially the shape of the fire caused air crews to estimate that the fire covered 2,500 acres. Zundel expressed appreciation for those who donated food and beverages to firefighters.

Wawrinka suffers his first loss in a Grand Slam final. Wawrinka won the 2015 French Open, one of his three major championships.

Wawrinka, who had won his three previous finals at a major, bowed out on the second match point when he sliced a backhand volley into the net.

1891 - The first French tournament, the International Championship of Tennis, is held and is limited to members of French clubs. However, it wasn't to be, as the Swiss World No. 3 looked completely out of sorts during the match, unable to mount any real threat to prevent Nadal from becoming the first man or woman in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam 10 times. The Spaniard won three titles on the Tour before entering Roland Garros. He also won the U.S. Open.

It was a steamy day in Paris - temperatures hovered around 30 degrees Celsius - a boost to Nadal's heavily spun forehand that can trouble players with one-handed backhands.

Nadal was shown a montage of his 10 victories before the trophy presentation and said the historic nature of the triumph added to his satisfaction. He is 9-0 in past finals at the clay-court major and has not lost a set in this year's tournament, playing as well at age 31 as he ever has.
