US President Donald Trump delivers a statement in the Diplomatic Room at the White House in Washington DC

President Donald Trump has no intention to fire Robert Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director in charge of investigating Russia's US-election meddling, the White House said Tuesday. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., asked Sessions whether Trump records his conversations in the White House. The former FBI Director said that, until mid-February, he chose not to approach Sessions about Trump's repeated approaches to him about the investigation of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Comey's statement before the House Intelligence Committee upset Trump, who has repeatedly denied that any coordination with the Russians took place. "I did not have any private meetings, nor do I recall any conversations with any Russian officials at the Mayflower Hotel", Sessions stated, ostensibly putting an end to that particular set of damning suggestions.

While it remained true that the president had not been under investigation when Comey told him, and as he later pronounced on his Twitter account after firing Comey, the Post reports that the investigation opened soon after the firing. "I was sacked, in some way, to change - or the endeavor was to change the way the Russian Federation investigation was being conducted".

Sessions lent his support to the special counsel, Robert Mueller, who is now in charge of the Trump campaign-Russia investigation.

Mr Kenny, from Castlebar, Co Mayo, took over as Fine Gael leader in 2002 when the party suffered near annihilation at the polls. After that, he worked as Fine Gael's minister for transport, tourism, and sport, and then as health minister.

"He didn't recall this, but I responded to his comment by agreeing that the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice needed to be careful to follow department policy regarding appropriate contacts with the White House", Sessions said.

Trump has made it clear that he is frustrated by the United States probe of Russian interference in the presidential election, which USA intelligence officials said was done to tilt the outcome in Trump's favor. "When you're recusing yourself, you are stepping aside, and this sure doesn't look like that", he said. The FBI is part of the Justice Department that Sessions heads.

President Donald Trump is under investigation for possible obstruction of justice, the Washington Post reports explosively Wednesday evening.

Despite that, Trump is stewing over the Mueller-led investigation in the same way he did with Comey.
