Three key questions Sessions didn't answer

This is why the "news" producers treated former FBI Director Jim Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee as a Watergate moment, a first impeachment hearing to be broadcast live on every "news" channel on television.

But when pressed on conversations with President Donald Trump about the investigation into Russian interference and the surprise firing of former FBI Director James Comey, Sessions refused to answer, garnering backlash from some Democratic senators.

He also declined to say if Trump opposed Sessions' decision to recuse himself from the Russian Federation probe in March, and whether Justice Department officials discussed possible presidential pardons of individuals being looked at in the probe.

But the nation's top law enforcement official - who recommended Comey's dismissal last month - has himself become a focal point in the crisis roiling the White House.

When Senator Kamala Harris, D-CA, asked if the Department's policies were contained in a written document, Sessions said, "I believe so". Comey said the president then leaned on him to halt the Flynn investigation.

Wyden said Sessions' answer "doesn't pass the smell test".

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters later that Trump thought Sessions "did a very good job" and was especially "strong" on denying any collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Australia police shoot hostage taker dead
Malcolm Turnbull, who will convene the Council of Australian Governments in Hobart, said the issue of parole was a high priority. Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Andrew Crisp told reporters a woman had been held hostage in an apartment Monday.

"I'm following the policies of the Department of Justice", which he said included protecting the confidentiality of conversations with the president.

"I saw that as an absolute distraction - I think this president has been terrific at throwing up smoke screens and distractions - and that's exactly what I thought that was", said Sidlow.

Testifying at a Senate hearing, Sessions, who was a close Trump adviser during the battle for the presidency, said it was a "detestable and appalling lie" to suggest that he participated in or was aware of any collusion between Russian Federation and the Trump campaign.

"Will you let me qualify it?"

"You have people not revealing their contacts or nature of their conversations with leaders from Russian Federation, and That's Manafort, Flynn, Kushner, Sessions ... unfortunately we did not get satisfactory answers from the attorney general".

The White House has moved to put a lid on speculation that President Donald Trump might fire the special counsel investigating the Russian Federation affair, while leaving just enough of a crack to keep the idea bubbling.

Sessions said he learned from Comey that he felt concerned about being left alone with the president but that, since Comey did not relay details of the conversation, he had no way of knowing it was improper.

Shares Losing Ground: Weatherford International plc (NYSE:WFT)
Arga Investment Management Lp bought 2.73 million shares as the company's stock declined 8.25% while stock markets rallied. The company had revenue of $1.39 billion for the quarter, compared to the consensus estimate of $1.36 billion.

Sessions' testimony did not provide any damaging new information on Trump campaign ties with Russian Federation or on Comey's dismissal, but his refusal to discuss conversations with Trump raised fresh questions about whether the White House has something to hide.

At a separate hearing Tuesday, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein declared he'd seen no basis for dismissing Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director he appointed as special counsel after Sessions' recusal.

Following the hearing, a White House spokeswoman said Trump "has no intention" of dismissing Mueller.

Sessions previously acknowledged that he met twice with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak in his capacity as a senator and chairman of the Senate's Subcommittee on Strategic Forces.

Tuesday's hearing was followed by predictably partisan reaction from Republicans and rival Democrats. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., asked Sessions whether Trump records his conversations in the White House. But Sessions said he had no recollection of that.

Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee lambasted the attorney general for failing to provide responses, particularly when they were not asking about classified material or ongoing investigations. Those are the questions Jeff Sessions did not answer. "He failed that obligation and his oath to the Constitution with his stonewalling of senators".

Trump Thinks The Republican Health Care Plan Is "Mean"
Just last weekend, Trump used his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., to hold a fundraising event for MacArthur that netted $800,000. Elijah Cummings, D-Md. "He talked about making sure that we have a bill that protects people with preexisting conditions".
