Blimp goes down at US Open, pilot okay

The blimp was "not affiliated with the USGA or the U.S. Open Championship Broadcast", according the the USGA's official statement.

US Open spectators witnessed blimp catching on fire and crashing near the tournament Thursday.

The incident happened around 11:20 a.m.at the tournament in Erin, Wisconsin, according to the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel.

The statement says the blimp was on fire or smoking and went down rapidly.

Video posted to Twitter showed the blimp fall from the sky. Rescue crews used utility vehicles to reach the crash site, about a half mile from the golf course.
