Trump wrote in a follow-up tweet that he was the victim of a "witch hunt" and called the people behind the investigations "very bad and conflicted".

Mr Trump has again lashed out on Twitter.

Mueller has requested interviews with senior intelligence officials about their conversations with Trump in an effort to investigate possible obstruction of justice, a former senior intelligence official with knowledge of the discussions confirmed to NBC News.

Comey told Congress last week he believes he was sacked by Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe.

Accusations of obstruction arose last month when the US President fired FBI Director James Comey.

Mueller will interview Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats, National Security Agency chief Mike Rogers and Rogers' former deputy Richard Ledgett in the obstruction probe.

In their story, the Washington Post cited anonymous sources who were briefed on the interview requests by investigators.

Trump's personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz, who issued a statement which did not deny the story, but did say that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was behind it, calling the leak "outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

Mueller's investigators have asked for information and will talk to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Adm. Mike Rogers, a source familiar with the matter told CNN.

The situation changed, the Post reported, after Trump fired Comey. The White House has denied any collusion, and Trump has repeatedly complained about the probe, saying Democrats can not accept his election win.Several congressional panels are also investigating the Russian Federation issue, which has cast a shadow over the early months of Trump's presidency.
