President Donald Trump has reportedly asked Republican senators to draft a "more generous" healthcare bill than the "mean, mean, mean" American Health Care Act (AHCA) recently passed by the House. While meeting with Republican Senators, Trump also called the bill a son of a b*tch and told Republicans to spend more money. He also gets that too much generosity in the Senate revision of the healthcare bill will drive away the hard-liners in his caucus and he will not have the votes to get it passed.

Mr Trump had called the House bill a "great plan" when it passed by four votes but it was heavily criticised and was unlikely to get through the Senate. Following the House vote, Trump hosted an event in the Rose Garden to celebrate its passage.

"He made pretty clear that he thinks the House bill leaves people - many of which probably make up his base - in a bad place", one congressional source with direct knowledge of the meeting said.

That House bill was widely criticized for letting states seek waivers from insurance protections for people with pre-existing conditions. "Americans handed the keys to the Republican Party in November with the understanding that they'd finish the job they started in 2015: ending the forced partnership between taxpayers and America's biggest abortion business". "But that said, I would say that my focus right now is on the broader health care marketplace, getting it fixed".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch MicConnell and the Republicans are now drafting a new version of the AHCA.

We know that the Trump/Russia story will still be there in a month.

But those changes risk alienating conservatives who are under intense pressure from voters and outside groups to demand a more forceful repeal of the law known as Obamacare. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, to a measure that blocks funding to Planned Parenthood is among them.

The president first attempted to push through a bill in March, but withdrew it at the last minute when House Speaker Paul Ryan told him he would not have the minimum 215 votes needed. They argue that waiving those requirements would allow states to offer cheap, bare-bones plans and drive down the cost of premiums across the individual insurance markets.

The major taxes include a tax on insurance companies, a medical device tax, a tax on investment income and an income tax on couples making more than $250,000 per year.

"We've got to solve the underlying problem", he told the Post.

Senate Republican leaders drafting a measure to revamp US health-care policy appear to be following the same path as their House counterparts: writing a bill behind closed doors before springing it on other lawmakers and the public close to a vote. Claire McCaskill that he didn't anticipate any committee hearings on the Republican health care proposal.

And with good reason, because when the CBO did look at the bill, it turned out that it would have left 23 million more Americans without health coverage and would slash $834 billion in health care for the poor.
