Saudi guards fire on Iranian boat, killing fisherman

He said it was not clear if the fishing boats had strayed into Saudi waters and that Iranian authorities were trying to determine the facts.

"This Saudi move is not compatible with human principles and even assuming that the boats had crossed Saudi borders due to sea waves, they were not authorized to shoot at the Iranian boats", the official said. "There was shooting by Saudi border guards. and one Iranian fisherman was killed", the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted an interior ministry official as saying about Friday night's incident.

Foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghassemi issued a similar statement. One of the boats is still missing.
