US Open: Justin Thomas shoots record 63, trails Brian Harman by 1

Thomas mixed nine birdies and two bogeys before hitting his second shot to six feet on the par-five 18th hole and tapped in for eagle to record the lowest round (9-under) in relation to par in US Open history.

The bogey left him with a 4-under-par 68 for the day and a three-way tie for second place at 11-under - tied with Brooks Koepka and Justin Thomas and one shot behind Brian Harman.

But the third-round leader at the U.S. Open? What would Ben Hogan say? Or that Johnson and McIlory went home Friday after missing the cut?

"It was never that way in the U.S. Open". It's impossible to handicap this lovely mess of a leader board.

KEY STATISTIC: In 116 U.S. Opens to date, only six players had ever reached 10 under or better. Not Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus. And then Morgan came undone. He crashed instantly, as if the Open rose to humiliate him for impertinence. He finished with a 77 and muttered, "Well, that was a disaster". Wonderful, psychologically illuminating, schadenfreude-packed disaster.

After making a double-bogey 7 on the first hole, Gooch steadied a little to finish with a round of 4-over 76. Then came this Saturday, after a night of rain, when tradition was shattered. I enjoy it a lot more. There were 18 rounds in the 60s on Saturday.

Rep. Scalise's condition upgraded to serious from critical
In a statement posted to his Twitter account, Mr Scalise was said to be "more responsive, and is speaking with his loved ones". Griner remained hospitalized at MedStar Hospital after getting shot in the ankle, and Sava described her in good condition.

So, who's going to win the second major of the year? He'll be called the U.S. Open champion, but this really isn't the U.S. Open. Which ones? Pick one.

There aren't many players who hate themselves this week.

Thomas became the fifth player to shoot 63 in a U.S. Open and the first player at 9 under. Okay, yes, Oakmont, perhaps a slightly sterner test, like maybe two-a-side.

"I've been feeding off the fans all week", Stricker said.

On a wild and wonderful day of scoring, Justin Thomas signed for a 63 - a round of nine-under - that constituted the lowest ever round to par in the championship's long and celebrated history.

The Victorian shot a disappointing even-par 72 to stay at four under, sharing 17th. "And I felt very comfortable with my swing".

Floyd Mayweather confirms Conor McGregor boxing match in Las Vegas in August
There's just so many questions, and that's before mentioning the fact he's in the ring with one of the best for his boxing debut. But he has been vocal about his desire to exit retirement for only one fight - the big one against McGregor.

"That means I'm a part of history", he said. "So we're breaking down all kinds of barriers".

This year, at least, there will be none.

Rickie Fowler wave to the gallery after putting out on the first green during the first round of the US Open golf tournament at Erin Hills, Wisconsin June 15, 2017. This is an identity crisis.

But it all went wrong at the par four third, when he got snarled up in the knee-deep fescue and ran up an ugly seven.

This isn't like most Opens.

No. 1, 609 yards, par 5: Driver 312 yards. "When you set up a golf course in a fair manner and the weather's good, the scores are going to be low". The PGA Championship was a harder version of a PGA Tour event, but with forgiveness of sin in its heart. Instead, here are five things to look for on Sunday at the U.S. Open. The course is probably nicer to play without the wind. Let's face it: If they changed out the signage and television graphics overnight and called this the PGA Championship, we'd all be pretty happy with the result. The soft Black Course allowed players to take dead aim, and Barnes opened with rounds of 67 and 65.

Was gunman ready to head home before VA shooting?
Sava said he told Scalise's family that "I am not declaring victory until he's playing ball in his back yard with his family". Hodgkinson's widow, Suzanne Hodgkinson, said Thursday afternoon that she had "no idea" he was going to carry out the murders.

"I think since my dad dropped me off at football practice and told me to not be disappointed if I didn't get to play at all", Harman said, drawing laughs.
