EC orders FIR against Tamil Nadu CM Dinakaran in bypoll bribery case

Stalin, whose party along with the Congress, staged a walkout from the state's Assembly after the Chief Minister's reply, said that Palanisamy gave a very vague answer when questioned about the case.

He was responding to DMK leader M.K. Stalin and Congress members who raised the issue of EC asking the state chief electoral officer to lodge a police case on the alleged bribing of voters in R K Nagar constituency in north Chennai.

A day after the media reported that Election Commission of India (ECI) asked to register a FIR against persons who were involved in bribing the voters at R K Nagar by-poll, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami on Monday admitted that case has been filed by the poll panel with regard to the issue. The Election Commission rescinded the bypoll scheduled in the wake of bribery charges.

Trump's allies add pressure on special counsel Mueller
Doubt, however, has been cast on that explanation because of cryptic testimony from former FBI Director James Comey last week. Gingrich also said Trump is confident that Mueller will find he did nothing wrong, but Gingrich worries.

However, DMK members were on their feet after Palaniswami's reply saying they were not satisfied with his response.

The Election Commission in a statement said that it had received a report from the income tax department regarding the search and seizure of certain documents indicating large scale distribution of money to bribe voters to influence the by-polls in R K Nagar Assembly Constituency which is an offence under Section 171-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

While granting permission, Speaker P Dhanapal told the DMK leader not to get into the issue as the notice came in late and there was no time to get adequate information from the government.

Special prosecutor Mueller boosts his team for US Russian investigation
Rosenstein penned a letter outlining why he thought Comey could be let go, a letter the president reportedly asked him to write . US PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP , in a tweet, responding to reports that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice.

However, chief minister did not disclose the name of the persons who were mentioned in the FIR. "How will action be taken against the CM and the ministers if they don't step down?" he asks. "There is no solid evidence that members of our party went out distributing money in RK Nagar", says CR Saraswathi, AIADMK spokesperson, dismissing the document unearthed by the I-T department.

An RTI filed by High Court Advocate MP Vairakannan, who resides in the RK Nagar constituency, shows that there has been a deliberate delay in the case, despite the Election Commission's intervention.

The DMK had on Saturday also petitioned Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao to order a fresh Vote of Confidence in the state assembly and order a probe by agencies under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
