Fire Robert Mueller? Why That Trump Doomsday Scenario Won't Work

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, addressing questions of whether President Donald Trump might fire Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed to lead the investigation into Russia's election meddling, declared that he'd seen no basis for dismissing Mueller.

The claim that Trump wants to terminate Mueller, divulged by the chief executive of Newsmax Media and friend of Trump, Christopher Ruddy, was predictably accompanied by paltry bickering within the White House, as The New York Times reports.

Perhaps Trump will fire Sessions and then pardon him, in order to appoint a new attorney general who would then fire Mueller at the president's command.

Trump told Holt that the entire investigation "should have been over with a long time ago".

Man killed in van attack outside London mosque
Witnesses described seeing police giving emergency medical treatment to victims after the incident at 12.20am in Finsbury Park. Numerous victims are believed to have just left evening prayers at the Muslim Welfare House after breaking the Ramadan fast.

When West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin asked Rosenstein if Mueller could be "terminated without cause", Rosenstein said "yes".

The president was pleased by the ambiguity of his position on Mr. Mueller, and thinks the possibility of being fired will focus the veteran prosecutor on delivering what the president desires most: a blanket public exoneration.

The second case is that Mueller is unfit to investigate anything related to Comey because the two have a personal relationship and a professional respect for each other.

Federal regulations say a special counsel can be stopped for "any investigative or prosecutorial step" that is "so inappropriate or unwarranted under established Departmental practices that it should not be pursued".

Brooks Koepka equals scoring record with US Open win
The low scoring suggested the 11-year-old course was a cream puff, hardly the USGA's idea of the ultimate test in golf. Open, shot 75 to tie for ninth at 8 under. "Well", Thomas said, "it wasn't going to be like yesterday, regardless".

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter offered a similar message, tweeting, "Now that we know TRUMP IS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, Sessions should take it back & fire Mueller". A highly regarded Justice Department careerist, he tapped Mueller - infuriating Trump - after the White House tried to pin the Comey firing on him. "I think it's a threat to the Trump presidency". South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham, who is unafraid to tangle with Trump, said firing Mueller would be "a disaster, " since the special counsel had done nothing to be fired.

Earlier this month, Rosenstein told The Associated Press that "if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there's a need from me to recuse, I will".

Trump told NBC's Lester Holt in an interview on May 11 days after Comey was sacked that he fired him because "this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made up story".

Given that kind of support, a Democratic lawmaker, Ted Lieu, taunted the White House over the Mueller-firing chatter: "Double dare exists". The White House has used a memo he wrote to justify Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, but that Trump action may now be part of the probe.

One dead, 10 injured in London mosque incident
Numerous victims are believed to have just finished worshipping at the Finsbury Park mosque after breaking the Ramadan fast. A man told Britain's Press Association that the van had swerved suddenly and that he had narrowly avoided being hit.

Trump has repeatedly denied colluding with Russian Federation during the presidential campaign, and Comey and others have testified that there is no evidence to the contrary.
