For Bill Cosby, 2nd sex assault trial ahead

The Jury in Bill Cosby's Trial is Deadlocked, Wants to Know What “Reasonable Doubt” Means

She's digging in her heels as she prepares to bring a civil case against Cosby in California as early as this month.

For those who grew up with Bill Cosby's comedy, feelings of sadness shouldn't be confused with sympathy in appraising a legacy that - whatever the eventual outcome of the criminal case against him, in which a jury on Saturday failed to reach a verdict - has already been forever tarnished.

Cosby has said any sexual activity was consensual.

Prosecutors said Cosby, 79, drugged and sexually assaulted Andrea Constand, the former director of operations for Temple University's women's basketball team, at his home near Philadelphia in January 2004. But what I will say is that I applaud this prosecutor, this judge, this young woman who came forward for at least attempting to uphold what we believe was the rule of law - that equal protection applies to Mr. Cosby just as it does to the victim in this case. "They learned that this is a polarizing case, and both [sides] have a winning strategy". "I see you. I love you". "It's not a classic defamation case". As such, the defense may not call him for the second trial if they think he's a loose canon or unreliable.

Prominent Trump supporters are pushing for firing of Special Counsel Robert Mueller
Doubt, however, has been cast on that explanation because of cryptic testimony from former FBI Director James Comey last week. Collins' question wasn't the only time the Mueller investigation came up during Rosenstein's hearing on Capitol Hill.

"That is the human side of the legal system that can be hard to predict", he said.

But it was Cosby's reputation as a public moralist who urged young people to pull up their saggy trousers and start acting responsibly that prompted a federal judge to unseal portions of an explosive deposition he gave more than a decade ago as part of Constand's civil lawsuit against him. "She spent a lot more time trying to forget what happened than trying to remember that night".

"Social attitudes in general affect what happens in criminal trials, in rape cases. As a very special friend once stated, 'Truth can be subdued, but not destroyed.'" Camille Cosby also thanked her husband's lawyers, other staff members, family and friends for their support. Any reasonable doubt, said Gomez, can create a deadlocked jury.

On Friday, the jury asked to review multiple pieces of evidence, including Cosby's 2006 deposition testimony about quaaludes, a now-banned party drug.

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions to appear before Senate intel committee
Briefing congressional appropriators on the Justice Department's budget is a critical part of the attorney general's job. But federal investigators have not confirmed the meeting happened, and the Justice Department has denied it occurred.

Cosby, on the contrary, said Constand never stopped him when he made his moves.

About 60 women have accused Cosby of sexually assaulting them, effectively ending the long career of the entertainer once known as "America's dad" for his role in the 1980s television hit "The Cosby Show". Cosby has given a sealed deposition in the case.

Cosby's lawyers have repeatedly urged O'Neill to declare a mistrial, given the length of the jury's debate, but the judge said on Friday he could not intervene without a fresh signal that jurors remained deadlocked on the three counts of aggravated indecent assault.

The verdict came five days after spirited closing arguments in which Cosby was alternately portrayed as a man so intent on having sex with Constand that he used drugs to render her incapacitated, and as a man who had been framed by Constand and others in hopes of reaping monetary settlements in civil suits. A judge recently denied Cosby's motion to dismiss the case, and a trial has been scheduled for June 2018. Cosby is appealing a ruling allowing Dickinson's case to proceed.

Cosby, who gave the deposition as part of Constand's lawsuit against him, said he got seven prescriptions for the powerful sedative in the 1970s for the goal of giving them to women with whom he wanted to have sex.
