In spite of tweet, lawyer says Donald Trump not under investigation

The contradictory messages came after Trump first answered - and seemingly confirmed - reports that he is personally being investigated for obstruction of justice when he tweeted on Friday: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Speaking on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, attorney Jay Sekulow said the "president is not under investigation by the special counsel".

"Let me be clear - the president's not under investigation, as James Comey said in his testimony, that the president was not the target of investigation on three different occasions", Sekulow said.

A representative from President Donald Trump's legal team said Trump is not under investigation, despite the President tweeting "I am being investigated" this week.

He said, however, that Sekulow's comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller's team officially confirms it, disregarding any media reports based on anonymous sourcing.

Brexit negotiations begin in Brussels
And Hammond described the divorce bill figures being bandied around in Brussels as "the most egregious pre-negotiation posturing". On Sunday, the International Trade Secretary, Liam Fox, flew to Washington DC on his first trade trip since the election .

A bit confused and bemused, the Fox News anchor alerted Sekulow that he had just admitted that the president is being investigated while simultaneously insisting that Trump is not part of the Justice Department's probe.

"The president has not been notified by anyone that he's under investigation", Sekulow says.

When Wallace called him on it, Sekulow said he was just laying out the legal theory in play, but he had not prefaced the statements that way. "Witch Hunt." Rosenstein appointed Mueller to be the special counsel in the investigation, although Mueller is actually conducting it. Every development in the story so far, however, lends plausibility to the claim that Trump didn't fire Comey to terminate the Russian Federation investigation, he did so out of frustration with Comey's unwillingness to defend him in public.

Dianne Feinstein, top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was "increasingly concerned" that Trump will fire both Mueller and Rosenstein.

On another question - Trump's suggestion that he may have tapes of conversations with Comey - Sekulow told CBS' Face The Nation, "I think the president is going to address that in the week ahead".

Special prosecutor Mueller boosts his team for US Russian investigation
Rosenstein penned a letter outlining why he thought Comey could be let go, a letter the president reportedly asked him to write . US PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP , in a tweet, responding to reports that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice.

"Witch hunt' is how Trump characterizes the probe into Russia's election interference and possible ties to his campaign associates".

In context, Sekulow seemed to argue that Comey, in his capacity as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, should've considered his conversations with the president to be privileged - which is to say, confidential information, not to be shared, between a lawyer and that lawyer's client.

Sekulow said Trump would address the issue of the tapes - whose very existence is unclear - in the "week ahead". While Mensch has reported some aspects of the Russian Federation investigations before they reached more mainstream media, she has also published many other aspects yet to be verified and others that turned out to be false.

The Post, in fact, states in its article about what it sees as an unlikely alliance, that Rubio's membership on the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating Russian influence in the 2016 presidential race could be a factor. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses.

While aides have advised Trump to stay off Twitter, the president continued to weigh in Sunday as he spent the weekend at Camp David, the government-owned presidential retreat in Maryland.

Trump Lawyer Denies President Is Under Investigation, Despite Tweet
This was not the first time Mr Trump had taken aim at the pair. "Witch Hunt", Trump posted. The statement comes even though Trump himself has suggested that he is.

It's not a great defense, and every morning talk show host poked holes in it, but Chris Wallace of Fox News seemed to do the best job.
