London police investigating incident of collision with pedestrians

A vehicle hit pedestrians in London's Finsbury Park community, causing "a number of casualties", according to authorities.

One person has been arrested but police have not said if the crash was deliberate or accidental.

"So he came back to the main road and I managed to get him to the ground and me and some other guys managed to hold him until the police arrived, for about 20 minutes I think, until the police arrived".

At least one man has died and 10 people have been injured after a "potential terrorist attack" in London overnight.

Someone in the crowd yelled to others not to harm the man while he was taken into custody. "He will also be subject of a mental health assessment in due course", the police added.

The attack is the latest to hit a country traumatized by a wave of recent terrorist incidents and a city still struggling to deal with last week's deadly tower block inferno.

Prime Minister Theresa May has said police are treating it "as a potential terrorist attack".

She said: "I will chair an emergency meeting later this morning".

The Metropolitan Police's Counter-terrorism command is now leading the investigation.

The Finsbury Park Mosque gained notoriety more than a decade ago for sermons by radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri, who was sentenced to life in a USA prison in January 2015 for his conviction on terrorism-related charges.

According to a tweet from Transport for London, Seven Sisters Road has been closed northbound at Hornsey Road and southbound at Rock Street.

On June 3, a van drove into a crowd of people walking on the London Bridge, followed by knife attacks, leaving eight dead and many wounded.

"There's a lots of people from Nigeria, from Tunisia from Morocco, from the Arab countries".

One witness told CNN it was clear that the attacker at Finsbury Park had deliberately targeted Muslims. The group's general secretary, Harun Khan, described the incident as a hate crime against Muslims.

Images of the van showed it was rented from Pontyclun Van Hire in Pontyclun, near Cardiff.

London's Metropolitan Police said it was called just after midnight to an incident on Seven Sisters Road.

There was no immediate suggestion the incident in Finsbury Park was terror-related.

"They were very nervous, shouting very loud, trying desperately to make some signs to a police vehicle that was. just passing the road", she told CNN.

But the police said they had responded "instantly" as officers were in the immediate vicinity.

She said: "We are not saying anything, we don't know anything at the moment".
