Man killed in van attack outside London mosque

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), an umbrella body for British Muslims, said the incident occurred outside the Muslim Welfare House on Seven Sisters Road, near the Finsbury Park mosque.

A witness told CNN's Phil Black the van "came to a stop, and that's when they were able to apprehend the driver ... they were able to pull him out".

Numerous victims are believed to have just left evening prayers at the Muslim Welfare House after breaking the Ramadan fast.

They killed eight people before being shot dead by police.

"We have to condemn this incident regardless who is behind it and call it as it is - it is a terrorist attack on innocent people", Kozbar said, comparing it to the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge.

"We have been informed that a van has run over worshipers as they left #FinsburyPark Mosque", the Muslim Council of Britain tweeted early Monday.

"There was this white van stopped outside Finsbury Park mosque that seemed to have hit people who were coming out after prayers had finished".

Witnesses described seeing police giving emergency medical treatment to victims after the incident at 12.20am in Finsbury Park.

An armed police officer mans a cordon on the Seven Sisters Road at Finsbury Park where a vehicle struck pedestrians in London Monday, June 19, 2017. The mosque, which today operates largely as a community center, rose to worldwide notoriety in the early 2000s, due to its links with Egyptian-born radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri. Its former imam Abu Hamza was jailed for life in NY on terrorism charges in 2015. It said its prayers are with the victims.

On days when Arsenal football club hosts home matches at the nearby Emirates stadium, the streets around Finsbury Park's transit interchange throngs with fans.

Shomrin, a Jewish "Neighbourhood Watch" scheme that covers Stamford Hill, Hackney and Haringey has condemned the attack via Twitter, saying: "We stand together in solidarity with the victims of the horrific terrorist attack in Finsbury Park.Thoughts and prayers with all those affected". Around 10% of the borough's population is Muslim.

"Everyone was shouting "a van's hit people".

Police said in a statement there were "a number of casualties".

Prime Minister Theresa May will chair an emergency meeting later and said police were treating it "as a potential terrorist attack". She said on Saturday the response to the fire had been "not good enough".

Abdulrahman claimed the driver said, 'kill me, ' as he was held on the ground.
