Mosque chairman says crash was 'cowardly attack'

London' police force have declined to explain why the person charged with attempted murder in the attack on pedestrians outside the Finsbury Park mosque was not immediately charged in connection with a man who died at the scene. Eight people were killed and 50 injured on June 3 when three terrorists drove into pedestrians on the London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars in the Borough market.

"He will also be subject of a mental health assessment in due course".

The Muslim Council of Britain, an advocacy group for the country's Muslim community, said in a Monday tweet that the incident took place near the Muslim Welfare House - on the opposite side of the road - not outside the Finsbury Park Mosque itself. "It's a very strong Muslim community in this area and what's happening today is I think the people must be extremely, extremely sad", Al-Sulaman said.

The attack will stretch the capacity of authorities in Britain, who have faced four attacks in recent months, together with a major fire that has killed dozens.

The chairman of the Finsbury Park Mosque says the van crash that hit worshippers was a "cowardly attack" and urged Muslims going to mosques to be vigilant. She said her thoughts were with the injured, their loved ones and emergency officials who responded to the incident. "Our prayers are with the victims", the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), an umbrella body, said on Twitter.

Police attend to the scene after a vehicle rammed pedestrians in London's Finsbury Park.

London's Metropolitan Police said it was called just after midnight to an incident on Seven Sisters Road.

In a statement, the MCB added that it was a "violent manifestation of Islamophobia" and called for extra security around mosques.

People could be heard shouting and screaming amid the chaos and bloodstains were visible on the pavement.

There is a rise in the number of terror attacks all over the world, and even as security agencies introduce rigorous checks and countermeasures, those who carry out the attacks resort to new methods. Witnesses have described it as a deliberate attack.

Manchester was also hit by a severe attack when a bomber killed more than 20 people at an Ariana Grande concert.

Muslim Council general secretary Harun Khan said the van deliberately targeted worshippers.

On March 22, a man drove a auto into pedestrians on the Westminster Bridge in London and stabbed a policeman to death before being shot dead killing five people. His attack killed five people.

The mosque, which today operates largely as a community center, rose to global notoriety in the early 2000s, due to its links with Egyptian-born radical cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri.

A new board of trustees and management took over in February 2005, a year after Abu Hamza was arrested by British police, since when attendance has greatly increased among worshippers from various communities, according to the mosque's website.
