One dead, 10 injured in London after vehicle hits pedestrians

Here's what we know so far about an incident in which a van drove into pedestrians near Finsbury Park Mosque, north London, in the early hours of Monday morning, injuring several people. Police say they have arrested a 48-year-old man who was driving the vehicle when it veered off the road and collided with a crowd of Muslims who were leaving the mosque after Ramadan prayers. Police said eight of the injured were hospitalized; the other two had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The Muslim Council of Britain has confirmed that worshippers leaving Finsbury Park Mosque were targeted when a van ran into them, adding: "Our prayers are with the victims".

"Extra officers are on duty in the area to help reassure the local community", Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said.

Mohammed Kozbar from the Finsbury Park Mosque has said that the celebrations this weekend following on from Jo Cox's death should remind people that we have more things in common than differentiate us.

Footage showed injured people lying on the ground and angry crowds surrounding a man believed to be the driver of the vehicle, according to the Independent.
