British Prime Minister Theresa May confirmed the incident is being treated as a "potential terrorist attack" and she is due to char a meeting of the government's COBRA committee. "This was an attack on London and all Londoners".

People had been attending mosques in the area as part of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim organisation which speaks out against extremism, said: "I utterly condemn the senseless and evil van attack against Muslim worshippers outside the Finsbury Park Mosque in London".

Eyewitness Abdiqadir Warra told AFP: "He just drove at people". "He (the driver) was screaming".

One twitter user later told of 3 Muslims being killed, with most of those injured being Somali individuals as they left the Finsbury Mosque. "He was sitting and holding him like that, people kept holding him". "Their restraint in the circumstances was commendable". Police said eight of the injured were hospitalized; the other two had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Hamza, known as the Hook Hand, is an Egyptian cleric who preached Islamic fundamentalism and militant Islamism from the London mosque until he was arrested in 2004 after a U.S. request to extradite him to face terrorism charges. He was about three cars in front of me. It was exactly the same time as the prayers finished. "I saw everything. People were badly injured".

May said she would chair an emergency security Cabinet session Monday.

India opt to bowl in Champions Trophy final
Together, they made India pay for the let-off and misses. # Azhar Ali was dismissed for 59 after he was run out by Jasprit Bumrah. Fittingly, it was off the bowling of Ashwin that Zaman swept for four to bring up a brilliant century to emotional celebrations.

The incident comes after two deadly Islamist-inspired attacks this year that used vehicles to ram pedestrians - a stabbing spree earlier this month in the London Bridge area and a March attack in which a man drove a auto into crowds on Westminster Bridge.

Jeremy Corbyn, leader of Britain's Labour Party, said in a tweet he was shocked by the incident.

In March, a man plowed a rented SUV into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, killing four people before stabbing a police officer outside Parliament.

On May 22, a suicide attack killed 22 people and injured almost 60 after an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. His attack killed five people.

"This was an attack on Muslims near their place of worship and, like all terrorism in whatever form, it shares the same fundamental goal".

Toufik Kacimi, chief executive of the Muslim Welfare House, speaking to Sky News, said the attack clearly targeted Muslims leaving evening prayers during Ramadan.

The Muslim Council of Britain said a van intentionally ran over worshippers and called it a "violent manifestation of Islamophobia".

Metropolitan Police were called to the scene in Finsbury Park, north London, at 12:20 A.M. local time on Monday.

"From the window, I started hearing a lot of yelling and screeching, a lot of chaos outside".

Forensics officers are examining a white van which has Pontyclun Van Hire on it - a Rhondda Cynon Taff firm.

The driver of the van - a 48-year old - has been arrested on suspicion of murder, he added.

Another witness, who wanted to be identified as Abdulrahman, which is not his real name, told the Press Association: "I managed to get the driver of the van".

Several witness accounts indicate that the victims were worshippers leaving a mosque in London's Finsbury Park.
