Police Confirm One Dead In London Attack

A van struck worshipers leaving a north London mosque early Monday morning, causing several casualties, local media reported.

London Ambulance Service say they have sent a "number of resources" to the scene. Eight others are in hospital, with two in a very serious condition.

He called the incident a "horrific terrorist attack". "This was an attack on London and all Londoners".

Ramadan, due to end at the weekend, with Eid al-Fitr expected to begin on Sunday, was always a busy time for mosques, with people coming and going to pray all night, he said. The attack comes during the Muslim holy month of Ramzan. I think it's significant that they had the reputation historically of being one of the most militant mosques in London.

The driver of the van was pulled from the vehicle and pinned to the ground by members of the public, according to an eye-witness interviewed by Sky News. "He (the driver) was screaming".

She also spoke to BBC News and said: "From the window, I started hearing a lot of yelling and screeching, a lot of chaos outside".

Van Plows Into Crowd Near London Mosque in Suspected Terror Attack
Another eyewitness, Boubou Sougou, told The Guardian the driver deliberately hit people on the pavement. Prime Minister Theresa May said the incident is being treated as a " potential terrorist attack ".

People present on the site there stated that the man was receiving first aid and medical help before the attack, and so the cause of his death has not been determined yet. "Their restraint in the circumstances was commendable".

Resident Cynthia Vanzella said said she was in bed when she heard people shouting. It was exactly the same time as the prayers finished.

Todays incident followed a series of attacks in Britain.

Earlier she described it as a "terrible incident", adding: "All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene".

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said following that attack that there had been a 40-percent increase in racist incidents in the city and a fivefold increase in the number of anti-Muslim incidents.

In the sickening clip, posted to Twitter by a relative of someone at the scene, the suspect is seen blowing a kiss at the camera while sitting in the back of a police van.

Van Hits Worshippers At North London Mosque
Police also said he would be "subject of a mental health assessment in due course". "I heard a lot of shouting and panic. Several bunches of flowers had been deposited outside the mosque as commuters went to work on Monday morning.

Labour leader and local Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn expressed his shock at what had happened, writing on Twitter: "I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight". Eight people were killed and 50 injured on June 3 when three terrorists drove into pedestrians on the London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars in the Borough market. Ten have been confirmed injured and one dead in Seven Sisters Road - although it's not been confirmed whether this is related to the incident. "We stopped him until the police came".

The Muslim Council of Britain condemned the attack near the Muslim Welfare.

Police said the driver was detained by the crowd until police arrived.

Images of the van showed it was rented from Pontyclun Van Hire in Pontyclun, near Cardiff.

Muslim Council general secretary Harun Khan said the van deliberately targeted worshippers. It has not been associated with radical views for more than a decade.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested under suspicion of attempted murder after mounting the pavement outside Muslim Welfare House which is near Finsbury Park Mosque.
