Russia says 180 IS fighters killed in Syria strikes

Moscow claims its forces may have killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in an air strike in Syria last month, but Washington says it can't corroborate the death and Western and Iraqi officials are sceptical.

Russian Federation "may have killed" ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to reports.

Russian state media reports Al-Baghdadi may have been killed in the May 28 airstrike near the Syrian city of Raqqa.

The UN can not confirm through independent sources that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the ISIS leader was killed in a Russian airstrike, UN Secretary-General spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a briefing on Friday.

May orders probe into Grenfell fire
Numerous displaced are living in churches and community centers. "It's really irritating why they prettied up the tower". London has a chronic housing shortage even in the best of times, and people fear being forced out of the city.

The Russian Air forces eliminated two top Islamic State (IS) field commanders and some 180 terrorists during airstrikes in Syria in early June, the Russian Defence Ministry said.

It said the IS leaders were discussing the group's withdrawal from Raqqa, with the military planning the airstrike after hearing that the leadership would be meeting. Several Iraqi security officials said Iraq was doubtful as well. Russian Federation says it is verifying whether it killed Baghdadi.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, which is a nom de guerre, was born Ibrahim Awwad Ibrahim Ali al-Badri al Samarrai. Al-Hayali was killed in an August 2015 airstrike by the U.S.in Iraq.

The report of al-Baghdadi's death comes as IS suffers major setbacks in which they have lost wide areas of territory and both of their strongholds - Mosul in Iraq and Syria's Raqqa. Both attacks would have occurred after al-Baghdadi's alleged killing.

After grief, anger at May over tower fire
At the very least, the survivors of the fire who have lost their homes must be consulted about where they wish to live. The head of state said a saddened country was showing a determination to rebuild lives wrecked by "terrible" tragedy.

If confirmed, his death would mark a major military success for Russian Federation, which has conducted a military campaign in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad since September 2015.

There had been previous reports of Baghdadi being killed but they did not turn out to be true. Questioning what Baghdadi would have been doing in that location, he said: "Is it reasonable that Baghdadi would put himself between a rock and a hard place of the (US-led) coalition and Russian Federation?"

In Iraq, the US -backed government has been battling to recapture Mosul since October a year ago after driving the group out of most of the rest of the territory it had seized. The U.S. has a $25 million bounty for information leading to his death or capture.

Rami Abdulrahman, director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, cast doubt on the report Baghdadi may have been killed.

One of them told reporters they spoken to the Prime Minister for two and a half hours about their demands and what they expected. It tore through all floors of the building and took more than 200 firefighters and 24 hours to bring it under control.
