The Finsbury Park mosque has been associated with hate preacher Abu Hamza and a number of terrorists - including shoe-bomber Richard Reid, who attempted to detonate explosives on a flight from Paris to Miami in 2001. Video posted on social media showed people screaming as bystanders performed chest compressions on one of the injured.

One man, who gave his name as Mohin, said his cousin was caught up in the incident. Before that several pedestrians and a police officer were killed in a car-and-knife attack in London.

In an address to the country, Trump struck a notably less partisan tone in response to his first major domestic crisis. Dianne Feinstein, acknowledged as much in a statement about how destructive that would be to the rule of law .

Chairman of the Finsbury Park Mosque, Mohammed Kozbar has tweeted about the incident.

"We do not know how many were injured or killed, but our prayers are with the victims and families". A number of police and ambulances were in attendance. One person has been arrested.

Metropolitan Police say the "major incident" happened on Seven Sisters Road shortly after 12 a.m. local time.

Prime Minister May said her thoughts were with those injured in "this awful incident".

Transportation officials said roads in the area were being closed.

No other details were immediately available.
