Theresa May 'welled up' in meeting with Grenfell families, says reverend

The presumed death toll from the London tower block inferno jumped to 58 on Saturday as embattled Prime Minister Theresa May, accused of misreading the growing anger over the tragedy, pledged action after meeting survivors desperately seeking answers.

Engineering experts say outside insulation panels installed on the 24-story Grenfell Tower may have helped the fire spread rapidly from one floor to the next. "The bodies of 16 people have been recovered from the building and taken to a mortuary", he added, while the figure of 58 may rise.

Queen Elizabeth II said the disaster had cast a sombre pall over Britain, but insisted the country was showing resolve in the face of adversity.

But public anger has been swelling, with furious residents heckling May and storming the local authority headquarters on Friday.

Public anger is mounting as residents and neighbors demand answers for how the blaze early Wednesday spread so quickly and trapped so numerous tower's 600-odd residents.

The angry protesters barged their way through an automatic door at Kensington and Chelsea town hall and sought to gain entry to an upper floor.

Police have opened a criminal investigation into the circumstances of the blaze.

"That number 58 may change".

The area surrounding the council-owned tower has been plastered by desperate relatives with pictures of the missing, from grandparents to young children.

Morocco said seven of its nationals were among the dead.

May was criticised for avoiding locals when she visited the disaster site on Thursday and faced cries of "Shame on you" and "coward" when she returned the following day, with police breaking up scuffles.

British outlets said May struggled to offer support or leadership in the wake of the blaze, accusing her of lacking emotional intelligence and calling her "Maybot".

A second protest began later at Britain's Home Office, which oversees fire prevention and policing nationally.

Prime Minister Theresa May has admitted that the support for families in the immediate aftermath of the fire "was not good enough".

Earlier, Londoners confronted and shouted at a Tory cabinet minister at the scene of the fire, while Ms May's chief of staff fled reporters asking why he had failed to undertake a called-for safety review.

Mosque attack being treated as terrorism
She said a police officer was doing what looked like a "cardiac massage, as if they might have had a bad heart or something". Ratib Al-Sulaman told CNN he was sitting with friends two minutes away, when an "incident in front of the mosque" occurred.

Lorraine Warrington, who lives on the nearby Silchester estate, said: 'This is not the time or place to take selfies - in front of a tower block where my friends passed away. She also met with injured survivors in hospital and announced a £5 million ($6.4 million, 5.7 million euro) fund for emergency supplies, food and clothing.

The Guardian reported that the material used in the cladding that covered Grenfell was Reynobond PE cladding - the cheaper, more flammable version of two available options.

The government has promised a full public inquiry.

British health authorities say they are still treating 19 patients, 10 of whom remain in critical condition after the London high-rise fire.

The Queen, having visited residents of the tower on Friday with her grandson William, also led a minute's silence in Buckingham Palace on Saturday.

"I don't understand why she was told to stay where she was".

"It is hard to escape a very sombre national mood", Elizabeth said in a message on her official birthday. He came to Britain in 2014 with his brother.

In a statement, his family said he was a "very awesome and kind person. He gave love to everyone", his family said in a statement.
