Trump Aides Kushner and Greenblatt to Visit Israel, Ramallah This Week

President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is joining President Trump's attorney Jason Greenblatt on yet another visit to the Middle East this week, to help push along the much desired peace deal between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, a White House official told the Wall Street Journal Sunday.

Kushner and Greenblatt joined Trump in a landmark visit to the region in May where he met with both the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and his Palestinian counterpart President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.

"I've always heard that perhaps the toughest deal to make is the deal between the Israelis and the Palestinians, " Trump said last month as he met Abbas in the White House. Jason Greenblatt, the White House special representative for worldwide negotiations, will arrive in the region Monday, according to the official.

In May, his father-in-law and boss - during an address in Jerusalem - expressed personal committed to helping the Israelis and Palestinians achieve a peace agreement. The two will hold meetings both in Ramallah and in Jerusalem, continuing subjects discussed upon Trump's recent Israel visit. The White House official stressed that both presidential advisers are respectful of the interagency process and working with the State Department, led by Secretary Rex Tillerson, and the National Security Council, led by national security adviser H.R. McMaster.

Further reports stated Kushner and Greenblatt are expected to lay down their plans for the peace agreement with the Israeli and Palestinian leaders and their senior advisers.

"What did happen is that the [Diplomatic-Security] Cabinet granted retroactive permits for homes built [illegally] over the years, pursuant to a decision made a year ago, during the previous American administration", the official said.

"No one should consider this step to be in any way a retreat from the president's strong support for Israel and for the United States-Israel alliance", the White House said.
