Trump Transition Aides Ordered To Preserve Russia Documents

After Comey's testimony, Trump said he had been vindicated because his former FBI director confirmed telling Trump on three occasions that he was not under investigation.

President Donald Trump's Friday morning Tweeted that he is being investigated for firing former FBI Director James Comey may have indicated his intent to sack the special counsel appointed to the probe.

"The Rosenstein statement suggests there must be a heck of a Trump story coming based on alleged information from anonymous foreign officials", tweeted conservative commentator Bill Kristol.

Trump is under increasing pressure on the Russian Federation probe.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and campaign advisor Paul Manafort have also been implicated. In a special hearing, last week, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee he believes Trump fired him because he resisted presidential requests to drop the Russian Federation investigation, especially as it pertained to Flynn, the former national security adviser.

The Justice Department's investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 election is looking at Kushner's multiple roles in the Trump administration, including the Trump campaign's 2016 data analytics operation; his relationship with former national security adviser Michael Flynn; and Kushner's own contacts with Russians, according to USA officials briefed on the probe.

Mueller is also investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, the Post reported Wednesday.

Citing a memo from the general counsel's office of Trump's transition team, the Times said members were given the order on Thursday for any information involving Russian Federation or Ukraine in the latest sign of the investigation's expanding reach. He said this week he had not found reason to do so - making the statement in the days after Trump's friends raised the possibility that the president himself was thinking of "terminating" Mueller. "I recognize the importance of these questions, and I think that Director Mueller ought to review that and make a determination of whether or not he believes it is within the scope of his investigation".

Former independent counsel Ken Starr called the prospect of firing Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller an "insult to the Founding Fathers" in a Washington Post op-ed published Thursday night.

A Justice Department spokesman told CNBC, "As the Deputy Attorney General has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will".

Missing person count rises in London high-rise fire
Treasury chief Philip Hammond said Sunday he believes the flammable cladding used on the building's exterior is banned in Britain. He says it may be necessary for numerous outmoded tower blocks built in the 1970s to be demolished because of safety concerns.

The tweets came shortly after Rosenstein issued his unusual statement that appeared to be warning about the accuracy of such reports.

Rosenstein hasn't spoken with Mueller since, he told lawmakers last week.

Court justice nominated by President Trump.

Trump also seemed to confirm reports in the Washington Post and other publications that Mueller's investigation has expanded to include allegations that he attempted to obstruct the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the election and his campaign associates' possible collusion with Russians.

That would be unsettling for a Justice Department where many top positions remain unfilled. Trump's only recourse is to dismiss Mueller outright. Rosenstein, who would be responsible for actually dismissing Mueller, told U.S. lawmakers he would fire him only with good cause. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote. "Absent the most extreme circumstances, the president would be singularly ill-advised to threaten, much less order, Mueller's firing".
