Uber fires more than 20 employees following harassment investigation

Uber Technologies told employees that more than 20 people have been fired after a company investigation into sexual harassment claims, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Uber launched the investigation when a former employee claimed that the company had not taken action after a manager mistreated a female employee.

Uber even told its employees that it would expand its employee relations unit to investigate claims better. The details were expected to be the likely center of Uber's weekly all-hands meeting, which happens every Tuesday. "It's not an anomaly", Greg Morton, CEO of Northern California Human Resources Association. A further 57 are still being analysed by the law firm brought in by Uber, Perkins Coie LLP. "But this is not a systemic problem", she said.

President Trump's Lawyer: He's Not Under Investigation for Obstruction of Justice
The president does have the legal right to halt the kind of investigation that the FBI was conducting in the Flynn matter. But because none of those positions have been filled by Senate-confirmed people, the job would fall to the U.S.

The taxi-app firm said the sackings related to sexual harassment, bullying and issues about poor company culture. Fowler said that her boss at Uber made sexual advances towards her and that HR dismissed her complaints, saying the man was a "high performer" and wasn't likely to be disciplined.

Uber hired Perkins Coie to look into claims of harassment, discrimination, bullying and other employee concerns.

A former engineer at Uber named Susan Fowler published a blog post alleging that she was propositioned by a superior for sex.

Uber's chief executive, Travis Kalanick, in February condemned the behavior Rigetti described, saying that it was "abhorrent and against everything Uber stands for and believes in".

The probe into Fowler's complaints is still underway, and Wilson wouldn't say if any of those fired, or 31 other employees placed in counseling, were involved in that. As reported by Bloomberg, Uber has been conducting an internal investigation into harassment accusations made against its employees, and it has apparently come to the conclusion that things are indeed pretty bad.

Separately, Uber announced Tuesday that it had hired Apple marketing executive Bozoma Saint John, who will be Uber's chief brand officer.
