US Open results: Brooks Koepka wins golf championship with record-equalling score

Their scores - 13-under, 12-under, 11-under, and a trio of 10-under's - would have won every U.S. Open contested, save three.

Justin Thomas shot a 9-under-par 63 to move into contention Saturday, a U.S. Open record.

"He played a fantastic bunker shot on 14, and the second shot he hit on 15 was the best shot I thought he hit all day". They spend a lot of time together on the course, in the gym, and at home, so Koepka has seen that U.S. Open trophy plenty at Johnson's house in South Florida.

The United States Golf Association chose to take it's national open to the state of Wisconsin for the first time this year, and a PGA Championship broke out.

Brooks Koepka traveled around the world to find his game. As Brian Harman began to fade, Koepka poured it on with birdies over the next three holes, lightly pumping his fist after each one.

Brian Harman reacts after missing a birdie putt on the 12th during the fourth round of the U.S. Open golf tournament Sunday, June 18, 2017, at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis.

Koepka carded a closing 67 to finish 16 under par, matching the tournament scoring record set by Rory McIlroy at Congressional in 2011.

She had been expected to win, and she started off amusingly by thanking the Tony voters, "many of whom I've actually dated". Best new play went to Oslo , directed by Bartlett Sher, Seattle's former Intiman Theatre artistic director.

Koepka is one of a handful of young golfers looking to take the torch from Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

Obviously, he has all the shots, so maybe this is just the start for him, and over the next few years, he'll be that Next Big Thing whose name brings people to the TV.

Harman's chances ended with two straight bogeys, and a bogey on the par-5 18th hole gave him a 72 and a tie for second with Japan's Hideki Matsuyama, who closed with a 66.

Rickie Fowler, Jamie Lovemark, and J.B. Holmes were all one shot back, followed by a group of five at 5 under, including amateur Cameron Champ. It was only his second-ever win in the US, in part because it took Koepka years of playing around the world on lesser Tours to finally make it to the big stage of the PGA Tour.

Koepka took it from there - a victory in Turkey against a strong field, his first PGA Tour victory in the Phoenix Open, his first Ryder Cup and now a major championship.

"You're at least able to score because typically at a U.S. Open you get your head beat in", said Fowler, who finished tied for fifth.

Florida native Koepka becomes the seventh consecutive first-time major victor, a run started by Jason Day at the 2015 US PGA Championship.

None of the batsmen could manage a resistance except Hardik Pandya who scored 76. The opening pair put on 128 runs before Azhar Ali was run out for 59 runs.

Reed, who beat Rory McIlroy in the first singles contest at Hazeltine a year ago and was wearing the pants from his Ryder Cup uniform, said: "You always can take that fire from Ryder Cup and use it in other events".

7 Players finished 10 under or better; before this year, that would have won all but two U.S. Opens.

The wide open fairways and soft greens of Erin Hills created the flawless course for Koepka. There were 133 subpar rounds, nine more than the previous record in that 1990 U.S. Open.

One by one the contenders dropped off Sunday afternoon.

A fourth place finish at the 2014 US Open had given Koepka a taste of what it might be like to challenge for a major.

Koepka, who played a leading role in helping the United States wrest back the Ryder Cup from Europe past year, said the experience of playing in the bearpit-like conditions of the competition had prepared him for Sunday.

Think Mayweather-McGregor is a freak show? How about these?
The 12-round fight will be fought at 154 pounds and will mark a return to the ring for Mayweather after an nearly two-year layoff. As for Conor McGregor and if he expected the Irish UFC champion to return to the Octagon, White seemed extremely confident.
