Van Plows Into Crowd Near London Mosque in Suspected Terror Attack

A vehicle struck pedestrians near a mosque in north London early Mond. Police said he was already receiving first aid when the attack unfolded.

Police were called just after 0020hrs 18 June to reports of a vehicle in collision with pedestrians.

"I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight".

Transportation officials said roads were being closed in the area.

He said: 'Whoever did this, he did it to hurt people and it's a terrorist attack.

"Police say incident has all the "hallmarks" of a terrorist" incident.

A second video that emerged online captured the moment police escorted the suspect to a riot van, while distraught onlookers shouted: "Why did you do that?"

London Ambulance Service said in a statement that a number of ambulance crews, paramedics and specialist responses teams to the scene.

Another witness, Hussain Ali, 28, said that while being restrained the suspect was protected by the people he is thought to have been targeting.

A spokesman said: "Officers are on scene with other emergency services". The Mosque Committee has said that the attack was part of the hate crime and should be termed as the Terror Attack.

"Communities will see additional officers patrolling across the city and at Muslim places of worship".

"We call it a terrorist attack as we called it in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge".

Police have not yet provided further details.

Dead: As of Monday morning, the person killed had not been identified. "No one! No one!"

Another eyewitness, Boubou Sougou, told The Guardian the driver deliberately hit people on the pavement. The group's secretary general, Harun Khan, said in a statement that eyewitness accounts suggest "the perpetrator was motivated by Islamophobia".

The 48-year old van driver, described by witnesses as a large white man, was held by members of the public before being arrested by police. Two others had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Counter Terrorism officers are investigating the incident.

The Sky TV reported that "at least 10 people" were hit by the van.

"He was screaming, he was saying, "I'm going to kill all Muslims, I'm going to kill all Muslims". It said its prayers are with the victims.

The nature of the attack drew immediate parallels with the London Bridge atrocity two weeks ago, in which eight innocent people were killed.
