Local Muslims Pray After Finsbury Park Van Attack

Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation, a Muslim organisation which speaks out against extremism, said: "I utterly condemn the senseless and evil van attack against Muslim worshippers outside the Finsbury Park Mosque in London".

The Metropolitan Police declared the collision as a "major incident" and said that there were "a number of casualties".

Witnesses said a van veered off the road into crowds outside Finsbury Park mosque, the Independent newspaper reported.

The city's ambulance service said in a statement on Twitter that it had sent "a number of resources" including ambulance crews, paramedics and specialist response teams to the scene.

"The Muslim Council works "to promote consultation, cooperation and coordination on Muslim affairs in the United Kingdom".

It happened outside Finsbury Park's Muslim Welfare House, which is nearby the Finsbury Park Mosque.

Jeremy Corbyn said: 'I am totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight. "I didn't see the attacker himself, although he seems to have been arrested, I did see the van". May says police are treating the crash as a potential terrorist attack.

'I've been in touch with the mosques, police and Islington council regarding the incident.

Witnesses said the road was "backed up" with police cars, ambulance and fire engines.

Scalise still in critical condition
The shooter was an IL man, James Hodgkinson , who had lashed out against President Donald Trump and Republicans over social media. Scalise "is under heavy sedation, and he's been in surgery, I think, all of the three times I've been there", Richmond said.

People had been attending mosques in the area as part of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Given we are approaching the end of the month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid with many Muslims going to local mosques, we expect the authorities to increase security outside mosques as a matter of urgency.

A witnesses told Sky News that at least ten people were hit by the van. He was trying to run away but people overpowered him.

- Driver was detained by members of public at the scene before police arrived. They ran away somewhere.

The London Ambulance Service was responding to the incident. Eight of the injured were taken to hospitals and the rest were treated at the scene. On days when Arsenal football club hosts home matches at the nearby Emirates stadium, the streets around Finsbury Park's transit interchange throngs with fans.
