Vehicle struck pedestrians in north London, possible terror attack

The van struck a crowd of worshippers leaving a mosque early Monday morning, killing one person and injuring several others.

London police have arrested a man following reports of a vehicle smashing into pedestrians at Seven Sisters Road in north London around midnight local time.

"Officers are on the scene with other emergency services", a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police told The Independent.

He said: "When I drove past slowly I could count three people on the floor and police were performing CPR on one of them".

At least three people are reported to have been seriously injured after a van rammed into pedestrians outside a mosque in London . According to the Council in a follow-up tweet , the van struck the victims closer to the Muslim Welfare House .

One person has been arrested but police have not said if the crash was deliberate or accidental. "All my thoughts are with the victims, their families and the emergency services on the scene", she added.

She told Sky News people often congregate outside the mosque following prayer meetings but gatherings were generally very quiet. It appears from eyewitness accounts that the perpetrator was motivated by Islamophobia. It was not immediately known if the incident is terror-related.

Early this month, a van crossing London Bridge veered into pedestrians. The attackers were killed by police.

"He tried to kill a lot of people so obviously it's a terrorist attack".

The Muslim Council claimed on Twitter that a van had "run over worshippers" as they left Finsbury Park Mosque.
