Earlier this year Mr Kalanick, 40, was forced to apologise after footage emerged of him swearing at an Uber driver in a row over fares.

Uber officials announced that passengers will be able to tip their driver through the company's app, joining rival ride share company Lyft, which has offered the option for several years.

Uber has just announced significant changes to their business in an email sent to drivers and delivery partners.

Tipping is available as of today in Seattle, Minneapolis, and Houston; the cities will serve as test markets that let the company "create the best tipping experience".

IS destroys Mosul mosque where leader Baghdadi declared caliphate
USA officials backed up Iraq's account a short time later, saying that " ISIS destroyed one of Mosul and Iraq's great treasures". The Mosul mosque is the symbol of the Islamist's resistance and losing that would prove the nemesis of the militant group.

Uber points out that service fees will not be deducted from your tips, so whatever you were tipped, you will gain in its entirety.

In addition to tipping, Uber will shorten the free cancellation period from five minutes to two minutes, meaning drivers are more likely to secure a cancellation fee.

Other changes include shorter cancelation windows for riders from 5 to 2 minutes and customers will now have to pay for wait time.

"We've heard you. You've told us what you want, and now it's time we step up and give you the driving experience you deserve, because simply put, Uber wouldn't exist without you", wrote Rachel Holt, Uber's head of USA operations, and Aaron Schildkrout, Uber's head of driver experience, in an email sent out to drivers Tuesday. It's gotten so bad that CEO Travis Kalanick has stepped down.

United States military shoots down Iranian-made drone in southern Syria
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to pour cold water on Monday a Wall Street Journal report that the Jewish. Sharif said the missile launch reflected Iran's "military power", though Iran has no intention of starting another war.

Uber has had a rough go of it recently, what with the highly publicized problems with its corporate culture, the resignation under fire of CEO Travis Kalanick, and the increasing tension with its drivers.

To accept tips, drivers will need to update their app and turn on "receive tips" when prompted.

An Uber spokesman declined to say why the company reversed its tipping policy, though he pointed to a company blog post that called the change "long overdue". It's also allowing more drivers to designate the routes that they want to travel to keep them closer to a preferred destination. Uber itself has been valued at US$69bil. Riders can easily choose from preset tip amounts. There's also the option for Driver Injury Protection Insurance, the costs of which will be offset by a slightly higher per-mile rate, for added protection against personal or financial injury while on the job. After downloading the latest version, drivers can ask passengers if they wanted to leave a tip after the ride.
