A Second Mistrial In University of Cincinnati Officer Prosecution

For the second time, a mistrial was declared in the murder trial of a white former University of Cincinnati police officer who fatally shot a black motorist during a traffic stop. Tensing proceeded to reach into the vehicle and subsequently shot the Black man. "How should we proceed?"

Hamilton County Judge Leslie Ghiz declared a mistrial after more than 30 hours of jury deliberations over five days. Tensing and his family left quickly without comment.

The Rev. Peterson Mingo, an activist and friend of the DuBose family, escorted the victim's mother, Audrey, and his brother, Aubrey, to a waiting vehicle.

"But we want the same deference, black families in America want the same deference". Mathews did tell a local television station Ray Tensing and his family are disappointed and would like resolution. The note said they didn't foresee reaching a unanimous verdict. That's not the way they want Sam remembered.

The post Second mistrial declared in OH officer's fatal shooting of Sam DuBose appeared first on PBS NewsHour. It's also among cases that show the difficulties prosecutors face in gaining convictions against police for on-duty shootings.

The family demanded another retrial and called on the community to join them in a peaceful protest "of this unjust result". "So Cincinnati is showing the rest of us how to do this right", said attorney Mark O'Mara.

China, US agree on complete denuclearisation of North Korea
China's top diplomat Yang Jiechi and General Fang Fenghui met Tillerson and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis during the talks. Moon also insisted that he still wants dialogue with North Korea, but he applauded President Trump's stronger stance.

Prosecutors will have to decide whether to try Tensing for a third time. It won't be here on Earth.

DuBose was one of 991 people fatally shot by a police officer in 2015, a number that was essentially unchanged previous year, according to an ongoing Washington Post database tracking such shootings.

The Post notes that this comes on the heels of a police officer being acquitted for the death of Philando Castille.

Black says the city's police and fire departments are ready to respond any situation.

Jurors reportedly deliberated for more than 31 hours this week.

North Korea was already high on President Trump's agenda, the BBC's Steve Evans reports from Seoul . The government claimed he contracted botulism and then took a sleeping pill that led to his coma.

The Ray Tensing murder retrial ended in a hung jury for the second time. When DuBose could not produce a driver's license, the officer told him to remove his seat belt and began to open the driver's door. "I submit to you that is a threat to his life and to his well-being".

Body cam footage of Mr DuBose's death went viral online and sparked outrage around the country. Tensing originally told the department that DuBose dragged him with the auto ahead of the fatal shooting, but the footage proved that to be untrue.

"Ray Tensing had a choice to make that evening", Tieger said.

As we have reported, Tensing's bullet hit DuBose in the head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

DuBose was driving his fiancee's 1998 Honda Accord when Tensing, then 25, pulled him over after seeing a missing license plate. But DuBose, with the window down, puts his hand on the door to keep it closed.

"Noncompliance does not equal not guilty", he said.
