Prosecutors Vow to Retry Cosby in Sexual Assault Case

Bill Cosby speaks with members of the media as he departs from the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial in Norristown Pa. Friday

The judge at Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial is bristling at repeated defense requests for a mistrial as the jury asks to rehear yet more testimony on its fifth day of deliberations.

In a statement, her lawyers thanked the prosecution for taking her case and said the trial had "given a voice to the many victims who felt powerless and silenced".

Cosby's wife of 53 years, Camille, slammed prosecutors for bringing the case to court, calling District Attorney Kevin Steele "heinously and exploitively ambitious" in a statement released after court adjourned.

Bill Cosby stood silently as his spokespeople and attorneys spoke in the rain outside the courthouse, then waved to the crowd as he was led to a waiting SUV.

O'Neill sent them back to continue trying to reach a verdict, and they continued to deliberate for another day and half before reporting that they were hopelessly deadlocked.

"She (has) shown such courage through this", he said. "We commend those prosecutors who raised awareness that one of the hallmarks of drug-related sexual assaults is the effect the drug has on the victim's memory and ability to recall and were nonetheless willing to present this evidence to the jury".

Constand alleges she then became incapacitated and was led to a couch, where Cosby is alleged to have fondled her breasts, put his hands inside her trousers, and penetrated her vagina with his fingers.

Cosby stands charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault after he was accused of giving drugs to and molesting Temple University employee Andrea Constand more than a decade ago.

The seven men and five women on the panel looked upbeat as they left court outside Philadelphia Thursday after Judge Steven O'Neill told them to keep working through a deadlock.

"I have no real recollection except later I was jolted awake", she said, going on to describe how he used his hand to violate her. Cosby's lawyers have said he and Andrea Constand were lovers sharing a consensual sexual encounter.

But it was Cosby's reputation as a public moralist who urged young people to pull up their saggy trousers and start acting responsibly that prompted a federal judge to unseal portions of an explosive deposition he gave more than a decade ago as part of Constand's civil lawsuit against him.

The "big problem" with the trial was the inability of several other accusers to testify, Allred said.

In late 2014, dozens of women went public with accusations that Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted them over the course of his lengthy comedic career and in July 2015, a judge unsealed Cosby's deposition in that 2006 civil lawsuit.

One of Mr Cosby's lawyers, Brian McMonagle, applauded the decision.

"This isn't talking to a trustee". Camille Cosby decried an "overtly arrogant" judge, "totally unethical" D.A. and "blatantly vicious" media.

She also did not mention that cheating Cosby himself in his own previous agreement with Constand admitted he provided her with pills to relax and engaged in sex with her.

"There are some things in this case that should be fuzzy. Why?" In other words, it's too early to celebrate, Mr. Cosby. "Because he drugged her to do this", the prosecutor told jurors. But TV networks had long since scrapped plans for a comeback and pulled reruns from the air after his lurid deposition testimony became public. Cosby was able to perpetrate his crimes, they said, in part because of his skin color.
