'Repeal and Replace' Cuts Schools' Medicaid Funding

Conservative Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said he is opposing the Senate bill because it "is not anywhere close to repeal" of the Affordable Care Act. He said that the new plan will give Americans less comprehensive health care coverage and estimates that the bill will increase deductibles, defund Planned Parenthood, impose a "crushing age tax" on middle age Americans, and rollback safeguards to prevent lifetime insurance limits.

"I am very supportive of the Senate #Healthcarebill".

Senate Republican leaders were trying to lock down Republican votes by funneling money to red states, engineering a special deal for Alaska, and arguing that they could insure more people at a lower cost than the House, which passed a repeal bill last month. But, like the House version, the Senate's bill also aims to phase out the portion of Obamacare that provides federal funding for states to expand medicaid. "Make sure we're taken care of here in the state of Nevada", Heller said.

Molina also said that the bill's proposal to tie cost-sharing subsidies to the lowest-level "bronze"-rated healthcare plans will make coverage less affordable, not more, by raising customers' out-of-pocket costs". That group said the legislation did not go far enough in its repeal of Obamacare.

McConnell, R-Ky., can not pass the bill if he loses more than two Republican votes.

As members left a meeting about the bill, many said they were encouraged by their first impressions of the text but were hesitant to say if it would garner the 50 votes needed to pass.

U.S. health-insurance bill faces stiff opposition
Republicans argue that the bill rolls back penalties for Americans that choose not to purchase a health insurance plan. The Senate bill would also erase the tax penalties Obama's 2010 law imposes on people who don't purchase insurance.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., another Republican who has yet to endorse the Republican plan, told NBC's Meet The Press that he wants to delay the whole thing: "There's no way we should be voting on this next week". Like the House's health care bill, the Senate's proposal is nothing less than an all-out attack on public health and our public hospital system, and its consequences will be devastating for New York City and the country.

He also said there would be an open amendment process to allow changes. The bill "rolls back the ACA's Medicaid expansion - making for deep spending cuts to that program, compared with current law".

"We have a very good plan", Trump said in an interview aired Sunday. Now, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is planning a vote next week.

Asked what would need to be included in the bill to get him on board, Paul said: "It has to look less like Obamacare light - it's got to look like what we promised".

There are cosmetic improvements in the Senate bill, but don't take them at face value.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY said Democrats have been clear they will cooperate with Republicans if they agree to drop a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and instead work to improve it. And that's precisely what the Senate bill did! That was my term because I want to see - and I speak from the heart, that's what I want to see.

Wheelchair users dragged away from McConnell's office for protesting health care bill
Some of the protesters were yelling "no cuts to Medicaid" as they were being led away by police. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Capitol Police said they were still processing the arrests.

The two healthcare bills seem to ensure that in some states coverage protections guaranteed by the ACA will be eroded, if not completely erased, over the next several years.

"Medicaid's not actually being cut from our perspective", Republican Sen. And that amount is going to go up every year slightly, but in the Senate bill would be based on just regular inflation, whereas medical inflation has always been faster.

One of the most controversial aspects of the senate bill is its treatment of Medicaid.

However Obama, whose best-known domestic policy achievement stands to crumble, offered a scathing critique of the new bill just hours after its release.

The CBO cost estimate, including an analysis on the number of people likely to be covered, is expected to be released as early as Monday.
