Same-Sex Marriage Support At All-Time High, Even Among Groups That Opposed It

The United States government has appealed to the Supreme Court there in a case involving USA law enforcement's efforts to gain access to emails held on Microsoft servers in Dublin. Just consider the president's tweets about judicial rulings in the case that has now reached your own court. Kennedy joined Chief Justice John Roberts' 2012 opinion, Shelby County V. Holder striking down a key provision of the Voting Rights Act.

To resolve the case, Kennedy relied on a multi-factor test that includes state and local laws, the reasonable expectations of the landowners, the physical characteristics of the property, and the effect of the regulation on the land's value.

The Supreme Court said the property should be considered as one parcel.

"We are disappointed the court did not recognize the fundamental unfairness to the Murrs of having their separate properties combined, simply to avoid the protection of the Takings Clause", Groen said.

The frustration to the Murrs was that someone who had owned a single lot dating to before the regulations would still be allowed to build on it.

The 5-3 ruling on Friday involved the family's attempts to sell part of its land along the St. Croix River. "Often, which way they cut is in the eye of the beholder".

Rivals Hamilton, Vettel clash as Ricciardo wins chaotic race
Despite Vettel's time penalty, Hamilton lost valuable time of his own - and possibly the race - changing a loose headrest. It was also a superb performance from Stroll, the son of a billionaire, who faced heavy criticism earlier in the season.

U.S. SUPREME COURT-The Murr family thought they had it all figured out.

To avoid liability in the case, the state and county told the Murrs they could combine the two parcels of land for regulatory purposes.

In effect, the Murr family argues, the government-mandated merger of their properties stripped them of almost half a million dollars, as they are now unable sell Lot E. They claim that this constitutes a violation of the Constitution's takings clause, which prohibits the government from seizing private property for public use without "just compensation".

Lower federal courts have so far agreed and blocked the travel ban.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion that concluded no Fifth Amendment taking had occurred. Petitioners have not suffered a taking.as they have not been deprived of all economically beneficial use of their property. It was one of the first in which Trump's conservative appointee to the court, Neil Gorsuch, participated.

The ruling could have implications that go well beyond the 2.5 acres of land in Wisconsin.

Puerto Rico, set to become US' 51st State?
Despite gaining U.S. citizenship in 1917, the island has been stuck in a legal limbo between being a colony and a full-on state. He also criticized austerity measures including imposing new taxes to help turn around the island's economy.

"The Murrs will be forever thankful to the Pacific Legal Foundation and their outstanding legal team".

The Murrs eventually made a decision to sell the vacant lot.

Many state governments own contiguous lots and large bodies of water near areas owned by the federal government (military bases, national parks, etc). Rather, the family was subjected to a "regulatory taking" in which a law or regulation has effectually stripped them of their property.

With Friday being the 12th anniversary of the infamous decision in Kelo v.

That too should be complete before the Supreme Court reconvenes for its new term on October 2.

LAZARUS: It nearly never says that you can't do anything with all the property you own. Meaning more leeway for governments to do what Wisconsin did to the Murrs.

Microsoft's head legal counsel Brad Smith, disagreed, saying "The [Justice Department's] position would put businesses in impossible conflict-of-law situations and hurt the security, jobs, and personal rights of Americans", saying recent hearings held in the House and Senate committees earlier this month showed lawmakers have "strong support" for updating the 31-year-old privacy law at issue in this case.
