Supreme Court to Hear Case of Baker Who Refused to Make Wedding Cake for Gay Couple

The Supreme Court's decision to hear a case in Colorado involving a baker who refused to sell a wedding cake to a gay couple could resolve a almost identical case moving through the courts in Oregon.

He says he feels "pretty good" having attorney Ted Olson representing the state before the court and that it's a "very good sign" the court made a decision to hear the case.

It's helpful in other cases where states might try to say that they are allowing same-sex couples to marry but they still want to deny some of the rights of marriage to same-sex couples. He said requiring him to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple would violate his religious views.

In 2012, Coloradoans David Mullins and Charlie Craig visited Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colo., to order a wedding cake for a post-nuptial celebration of their marriage in Colorado after taking their vows in MA. Both couples received the birth certificates they wanted when they won in trial court.

Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much". Wizarding legend Harry Potter's tale has turned 20.

He said he was happy to create other types of cakes for the couple.

The couple filed a complaint stating the refusal violates the anti-discrimination law of Colorado, which includes sexual orientation.

One of the lawyers challenging benefits for same-sex spouses, Jared Woodfill of Houston, disagreed, arguing that while the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 2015 decision recognized that same-sex couples have a right to Wednesday, the ruling did not create a fundamental right to insurance coverage and did not require lower courts to acknowledge a right to benefits.

They noted that the baker refused to make cakes to celebrate Halloween or that carry "anti-American or anti-family themes". Additionally, the court issued a summary reversal [opinion, PDF] in Pavan v. Smith [SCOTUSblog materials], a case concerning same-sex parents' names being listed on birth certificates.

It just happened to happen to me. "I really don't think I deserved it, but I have the record", he told MLB.com in 2011 . However, he was always known for his congenial ways and those that knew him said he never let the streak get him down.

The court will hear the appeal during its fall session.

"Religious freedom does not give you the right to discriminate", said ACLU spokesman Mark Silverstein. "We never ask who the couple is marrying or how they're getting married or what religion they are or anything like that".

Justices Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch on Monday slammed the Supreme Court for rejecting yet another gun rights appeal when the Court hasn't heard a gun rights case in over seven years.

The court will hear the case during its next term, which begins in October.

What!? Trump Now Insists James Comey Testimony Was True
Mr Comey also said that Mr Trump asked him for "loyalty" - which Mr Trump emphatically denies. "We're going to have to see". Trump suggested that his threat of tapes may have intimidated Comey into being more honest in his recollection of events.

"It would affect the same types of cases we had with the flower shop and the one OR bakery involved with this", Ross said. "Masterpiece does not convey a message supporting same-sex marriages merely by abiding by the law and serving its customers equally", the court said.
